when i was younger, i was very insecure. i did this kind of thing too. over time you learn that it is critical to be truthful and not misleading about every single thing you do. i had to learn this lesson the hard way, but boy, have i internalized it. UNDERSELL yourself.

@Davos_space @shvllwebvgvn Yes, Captain Obvious. It will be great if capable people work on challenging research problems. However, the OP of this tweet frames this as if quant people are useless and doing something wrong.

@kvntmlecs @shvllwebvgvn Meh, it’s not about “need” but more about incentives. Society is objectively better off with smart people working on hard scientific problems. The (difficult) goal is to create a system in which smart people want to become scientists instead of quant traders.

@Davos_space @shvllwebvgvn I think the idea that smart people need to be doing this or that is just wrong. They are free to do whatever they want (as long as they don’t break the law). The same goes for people who are stupid.

@kvntmlecs @shvllwebvgvn Not saying they’re not useful, But these smart people could be used in better ways (ex. Science research). I don’t blame em for working for Jane Strret through, they get compensated very well.

@ducksays Depending on what you do. If you are a SWE, then this is normal or may even be slower compared to many people who start working right after college.

Prediction markets are casinos. The rich and powerful are the house. Everyone else? The chips. 99.96% of users lose everything. The 0.04% walk away with billions. That’s why I helped to introduce the BETS OFF Act. We’re not backing down.
More Perfect Union@MorePerfectUS

NEW: Prediction markets are scamming the working class. Polymarket and Kalshi claim they are "democratizing finance," but their business model enables a handful of elites to fleece their customers. On Polymarket just 0.04% of traders capture 70% of the profits.

Trading during weird hours is cool because pretty much all the volume is algorithmic and you can learn a lot about how other people's systems are built and operate when there are no macro events or retail flow.

@michellezli Would believe it if someone with the actual offer actually confirmed that. Also, it might make more sense to do such a thing with PhD students and more nerdy schools like Stanford.

This Polish theoretical physicist just proved you can recreate all math functions from JUST one operation. E(a, b) = e^a - ln(b) Every single operation: +, -, x, / , trig, log, as you can see below. Extremely mathematically elegant.
