On behalf of H.E. @DrWorkneh, I was honoured to join Mr. @MabuyaMubarakx, Regional Platform Coordinator, IGAD Drought Disaster Resilience & Sustainability Initiative (IDDRSI), IGAD colleagues and delegates for the IDDRSI engagement on advancing Results-Based Management implementation using R. By strengthening our capacity to track progress, we ensure IDDRSI delivers tangible impact for resilience across our region. Ultimately, results matter, because they turn commitments into real change for communities.

A historic milestone for IGAD at the United Nations. IGAD Executive Secretary, H.E. @DrWorkneh, officially opened the IGAD Permanent Observer Mission Office to the UN in New York. This office marks a new era of engagement, strengthening IGAD’s presence within the UN system and amplifying the region’s voice on issues of peace and security, climate resilience, humanitarian response, health, and sustainable development. IGAD’s Permanent Observer to the UN, Mr. @cherinet_, who has faithfully served in this role for the past year, will continue to represent the organisation, ensuring that the priorities of the IGAD region are effectively articulated and advanced at the global level. H.E. With our Permanent Observer, Mr. Cherinet Hariffo, IGAD will continue to strengthen partnerships at the UN, champion peace and security, advance climate resilience, and drive sustainable development for the people of the Horn of Africa. This is a proud moment for IGAD and a new chapter in our collective journey towards a peaceful, stable, and prosperous region.

South Sudan’s Blue Economy Workshop Concludes The workshop in Juba to strengthen South Sudan’s National Blue Economy Coordination Platform has successfully concluded. Stakeholders from the government of South Sudan, IGAD, and partners agreed on concrete steps to embed Blue Economy priorities into national plans and mobilise resources for sustainable development. In his closing remarks, Mr Zubair Taban Zakayo, Director General for River Transport of South Sudan noted: “South Sudan’s inland waterways are not only a lifeline for communities, but also an untapped engine for trade, connectivity, and prosperity. Resilience in Action: IGAD’s 5-Day Ethiopia Field Visit Wraps Up IGAD has concluded a five-day field mission in Oromia and SNNP regions of Ethiopia, showcasing resilience-building projects that support food security and sustainable livelihoods. The delegation visited key initiatives in South Omo and Borena, including the Regional Veterinary Laboratory in Yabello, livestock markets, water systems, fodder production, and rangeland development.
