#Binance Founder @cz_binance (CZ) sentenced to 4 months in prison. This is following an earlier plea deal with the US government for failing to implement effective AML controls in Binance's early days. That's four months more than he deserves to serve in prison! For perspective: - JPMorgan settled with the US government for $13 billion in 2013 for overstating the quality of mortgages it sold to investors in the run-up to the financial crisis. - BNB Paribas was fined $8.9 billion in 2014 for a series of offences that included money laundering and violations of sanctions against Sudan, Cuba, and Iran. - Deutsche Bank was fined $7.2 billion for misleading investors and contributing to the 2008 financial crisis. These are all much more serious violations than Binance's, yet not a single executive at these organizations was imprisoned for these offences. While I believe CZ's ordeal is politically motivated, I hope this brings an end to the persecution and associated drama and he finally has closure!
