We don’t advertise the full membership upfront, we win people over with one product that’s so good, they stick around for the rest.” Travel runs on intent. “Google, Kayak, TripAdvisor work because people are ready to buy.” Earning runs on social. “Download Uber for the first time, take a ride, get $20. Uber pays us $30, we pass most back to the member. Same with games: hit a certain level, see some ads, maybe buy some gems. It’s an ad network play.” In his view, the model is to use high-intent and incentive-based funnels to hook users, then expand them into full members.
