Average benefit is $1900. The amount paid into SS to earn $1900 would be nearly $900,000 if the amount you paid into it had been invested in the S&P 500 for 35 years. It would be double that $1.8 million if the amount you put in and the amount your employer put in to match (instead of salary) were left intact.

Please stop with, 'Social Security was not meant to be your retirement income, it was meant to be a supplement.' So get off your high horse and understand that taxing Social Security when it was ALREADY taxed is HURTING the people it claims to be helping.
