Katanya, Indomie ini tadinya bukan punya Grup Salim, tapi hasil karya pengusaha bernama Jayadi Jaya yang membangun Sanmaru Food di tahun 70-an. Dia bareng teman-temannya yang pertama kali meluncurkan merek Indonesia Mie atau Indomie ini. Bisnis mereka awalnya sukses banget dan bersaing ketat sama Sarimi buatan Sudono Salim, sampai akhirnya Salim dan Jayadi sepakat buat gabung jadi satu perusahaan bernama PT Indofood Eterna. Tapi sayangnya di tahun 90-an ada masalah internal, Sudono Salim tiba-tiba memutus kerja sama dengan perusahaan distribusi punya Jayadi Jaya karena alasan keuangan, kemudian jalur distribusinya malah dipindah ke perusahaan miliknya sendiri yaitu PT Indomarco Adi Prima. Masalah distribusi ini sebenarnya jadi taktik buat mematikan peran Jayadi, karena begitu jalurnya diputus, posisinya di dalam perusahaan jadi nggak relevan lagi sampai akhirnya sahamnya tergerus habis. Kejadian itu bikin Jayadi Jaya terdepak dari Indofood yang dia bangun sendiri, lalu dia menuduh porsi sahamnya dimanipulasi sampai terus mengecil dan dipaksa buat menjual sisa kepemilikannya ke Grup Salim. Jayadi nggak mau tinggal diam, dia pun mendirikan PT Jakaranatama dan meluncurkan Mie Gaga sebagai tandingan, lalu dia bahkan sempat menggugat ke pengadilan tapi tetap kalah di Mahkamah Agung karena posisi lawannya memang sangat kuat saat itu. Sekarang Mie Gaga juga sukses jadi salah satu mi instan favorit, jadi jangan heran kalau rasanya terasa mirip karena memang pencetusnya adalah orang yang sama.
