Now that you have read each bill line by line, it’s time to focus on the budget. Your Secretary of Finance says that we need more revenue and the House budget is negative by $400M in the out years. That’s not fiscally responsible and won’t happen on my watch.
Governor Abigail Spanberger@GovernorVA

I’ll leave online fights to others. Some people govern by social post. I prefer bill by bill, line by line. We're busy delivering results for Virginians. That's the job.

This is so good from @Jacob__Siegel, and sums up most of politics today: “Attention is also reflexive rather than deliberative; it has no goal beyond participation.”
Park MacDougald@hpmcd1

In City Journal, @Jacob__Siegel explains how canny elite actors can use the hyperreality of social media—i.e. the persistent, if evidence-free, idea of a "MAGA base in revolt"—as leverage to extract concessions in the real world.

When this is over, the western part of NATO will never be the same. Spain, England, France and Italy have sold us out, as they too often have a history of doing. Eastern European nations are the heart of NATO. They spend money on defense, know how to fight and love the US. France particularly deserves fault and blame. From supporting China and Russia at the UN to denying Americans overflight rights, they’re doing what they’ve always done - showing weakness, while cutting deals with terrorists. (The reason the US has a Marine Corps and Navy is unlike France, we refused to pay a ransom to the Barbary Pirates. France is always happy to cut a deal.) Wars have unintended consequences as nations show their true colors. NATO will never be the same, and Western European weakness and acquiescence is the cause.

To all members of our armed forces in active engagement with the enemy I recite from the book of Isaiah: “Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying: ‘Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?’ And they said, ‘Here am I; send me!’’ God bless and protect you!

Too few Americans understand that the whole time we were fighting in Afghanistan, and Iraq, and in the Horn of Africa, that we were actually fighting Iran all along. Not sure why this is a mystery to so many Americans. Finally, instead of fighting the claws of the lion, we are chopping off its head.

European “leadership” is weak, fickle and afraid of their own shadow. They wouldn’t understand decisive action if it hit them in the face - and they certainly don’t know how to prevent a wide spread war - but they can sure as hell drag us into one. “America first means ‘even if it’s just America’” Those that believe that America First should include the Europeans - havnt been paying attention
Lindsey Graham@LindseyGrahamSC

To say I’m disappointed in the joint statement by leaders from France, Germany and the UK regarding Operation Epic Fury is an understatement. It is so sad to see western democracies lose their passion for justice and a sense of right and wrong the further away from their shores the event occurs. Everyone in Europe is rightly impassioned about Russia invading Ukraine. But when it comes to the long suffering people of Iran, Europe has been pathetic. To the leaders of France, Germany and the UK: the Iranian people are not wrong to demand the end to their oppression from the bloodthirsty ayatollah’s regime that has American and European blood on their hands. You collectively are the ones that are wrong by refusing to come to the Iranian people’s aid and adding insult to injury, you’re suggesting we should continue to negotiate with religious Nazis. It is pathetic. How far Western Europe has fallen. To the Iranian people: President Trump heard your cries. Help has arrived in large measure. To our European allies: you have gone pathetically soft and lost your zeal for confronting evil apparently unless it’s on your front porch. So sad. thehill.com/policy/interna…
