⚠️SCAM ALERT! ⚠️Governor Henry McMaster and the rest of South Carolina’s political class just got exposed as the biggest suckers in the room or the biggest crooks. They sold South Carolians this “transformative” Scout Motors EV boondoggle as a generational economic win. Scout (the old International Harvester tractor brand, now a Volkswagen subsidiary) would drop $2 billion of its own money. In return, South Carolina taxpayers got stuck with a $1.3 billion incentive package, roads, interchanges, rail bridges, site prep, the whole works. McMaster called it a “major milestone.” Commerce Secretary Harry Lightsey was right there smiling for the cameras. They rushed the deal through the legislature in days back in March 2023 (Act 3), over the objections of the House Freedom Caucus conservatives who correctly called it a woke gamble with other people’s money. Fast-forward to 2026, not a single Scout vehicle has rolled off any line. Production is supposedly still years away. The project is already $150 million over budget on the state’s promises, and they’re back with their hands out asking taxpayers for even more. Meanwhile, Scout just announced its corporate headquarters is going to Charlotte, North Carolina, not South Carolina. So much for all that “Palmetto State pride” and “jobs for generations.” Where are all the golden shovel, hard-hat photo ops now? Where’s McMaster taking credit for this “transformative” success? Crickets. The same politicians who couldn’t wait to pose with Scout CEO Scott Keogh are suddenly very quiet. Maybe they know the math was always nonsense, subsidizing a foreign-owned EV startup (with all the DEI baggage) in a state where direct sales are still blocked, while the broader EV market is cooling off fast. An electric SUV revival from a tractor company was always a stretch. But when the “investment” is mostly taxpayer infrastructure welfare and the company stiffs you on headquarters anyway, it stops being economic development and starts looking like straight-up cronyism. McMaster defended this deal against his own party’s skeptics. The legislature green-lit it anyway. Now the bill is coming due, the photo ops are over, and the only thing “transformative” is how fast they’re trying to memory-hole their fingerprints on this mess. South Carolinians deserve better than politicians who treat our tax dollars like Monopoly money for out-of-state corporations. This one stinks.

I've upped my speaking practice since that video I made on Trash Taste and I have started to notice the real problem. I think its possible to get to C1 with just iTalki lessons but the better I get at speaking the more I realize that to get to C2 or to get genuinely fluent, you need to be in the language for multiple hours in a day, on a regular basis. Basically if you dont have friends who speak Japanese or work at a Japanese company or are married to a Japanese person, your speaking will always be shitty.
