2 years ago my father passed away and I was too sad to attend the Fellowship Award Ceremony. Today it was my great joy and honour.
My father, a fellow scientist, would have been immensely proud. My thanks to the @Science_Academy, and to all my guides, students, and collaborators

Well, it's official: @hakaimagazine is ceasing publication at the end of the year because our funding is being cut. I'm incredibly sad for my colleagues, for the freelance community, for the journalism ecosystem as a whole, and for myself. Editing for Hakai has been a dream.

We need to take the earliest exit we can off this dangerous highway. We may miss the 1.5C exit. Doesn't mean we drive all the way to Cleveland. If so, we get off at the 1.6C exit. and if we miss that, the 1.7C exit. If there's "overshoot", we keep it as short & shallow as we can.

There is a widespread fallacy (spread even by those who know better) that warming has already crossed the 1.5C or even 2C threshold. That is simply false (see e.g. @richardabetts article: nature.com/articles/d4158…). We must call out unhelpful falsehoods regardless of the source.

Last 3 wks toughest yet. Since my #glioblastoma treated in June 2023, having freq partial seizures (usually cold peripherally & nauseated) (up to 10x/day). Difficult to manage. 3 times loss of consciousness. No seizures since latest ⬆️ antiepiletics but vv tired & lethargic.
