@StarlightMcKenz @guardian I'm really sorry to hear about your experience. It's frustrating how little understanding there is about ADHD. I hope that with more awareness such situations will become less common. I'm so glad to hear that he's now medicated and that it's working well for him!

@kyropoulos @guardian I was hauled into school and reprimanded for giving my Primary school kid a coffee before and after school. I was experimenting with what worked. THAT worked. He no longer wanted to die. No coffee now medicated though.

@kyropoulos @guardian Honestly, waiting lists are so long now, it will be a rare parent that hasn't tried everything available to them a long time before diagnosis.

@StarlightMcKenz @guardian By being aware of factors that can make a significant impact, parents of children with ADHD can experiment and see what works best for them and their child. As long as the conversation is framed appropriately, knowledge could be empowering and move things in a positive direction

@kyropoulos @guardian The strategies then listed are basic parenting strategies. Bedtime, nutrition and health. Surely listing these things for parents of kids with ADHD is disability discrimination by association? What if the parents says they are all taken care of? Do they get meds immediately then?

@StarlightMcKenz @guardian Discriminating and blaming parents is unhelpful and unfair. In any case, no two children with ADHD are the same, and what works for one might not work for another. There is no single ideal routine or environment; completely different things might work for different people

@StarlightMcKenz @guardian The article offers a range of strategies that might help alongside (or in lieu of) medication, while recognising that every family's situation is unique

@StarlightMcKenz @guardian I don't think the article suggests that parents are deficient. The full sentence reads, 'The first step is education and information on how to cope', implying that these strategies might be relevant for families that are struggling and are looking for things that might help
