@l3utty @jamiehuds94 But the point is if you were to play and win the playoffs then you would be getting rewarded with Premier league football and 200 million pound. That is where the problem lies. If Boro had won then the efl wouldn't have this almighty problem.

@l3utty @jamiehuds94 I'm not saying its not a big jump, but honestly in any way shape or form how can you reward anyone for cheating because as shit as it is for the fans, if Southampton go up and benefit financially at all then the rules are about as useless as a paper boat and the games gone.

@BoroLadRedArmy @jamiehuds94 Agreed they bought in a rule but no consequences so they’ve shafted themselves. Agreed the gravity is amplified because of where we are now but a fine and point deduction in the season and a straight disqualification from the playoffs is a huge jump

@BoroLadRedArmy @jamiehuds94 Yeah I get that from a borough perspective but the EFL can’t not let the game go ahead for financial reasons so I think they will fine and deduct points. I think they should then clarify breaking the rules with a exact punishment for next time

@l3utty @jamiehuds94 I couldn't honestly say, but if they were to go up then it has to be very big as it needs to send the message to other clubs to not do it, so in that essence it has to show that Southampton haven't benefitted at all otherwise other clubs are gonna say fuck it it's worth it

@Tgarratt10 When Leeds did it, it wasn’t a rule and they shouldn’t have been punished. When Southampton did it, it was a rule and they should get an appropriate punishment because that’s how lawmaking works.

Yet to see someone across this subject who isn’t personally invested or understandably emotional back the idea of Saints being expelled from the competition altogether. Hefty fine and points docked, as said from the start, seems to be general consensus. #SaintsFC

🚨🤓 Southampton Spygate personal view: 1. Expect the breaches will be straightforward to establish (ie liability) and almost certainly admitted to try and get some sanction credit/discount 2. Expect aggravating factors such as other examples of Soton spying this year to be raised 3. Fundamental question of how serious a breach of rule 127 and good faith is will be key. We know good faith alone was £200k in the Leeds case. The new rule makes it worse and spying obviously seeks a sporting advantage - why else do it? So that does point to sporting sanction of some sort 4. Being thrown out of the Play Offs appears excessive especially given Southampton finished 7 points clear of 6th and 9 clear of 7th 5. A 3-0 in the first leg would have been an option again excessive retrospectively unless 2nd leg re-playable (not feasible) 6. More likely sanction is points deduction next season in the Championship as much as that won't help Middlesboro 7. Unlikely that the PL will take a points deduction recommendation from the EFL (no fixed rule) - doubt EFL will push for it, so would apply in first season back in Championship (when and if) 8. My best guess is SIX EFL points in first season in EFL and £500k-£1m fine 9. Boro compensation claim can be dealt with separately subject to any claim brought by Boro - difficult claim to establish due to causation issues
