A3 Student-centered collaboration is a game-changer. Jigsaw activities are great, they enable each student to become an "expert" on a topic, and then share w/ their peers. It encourages teamwork and deepens understanding! 🧩👥 #formativechat
@psloanjoseph@Rdene915 A3: When I have students in small groups, I have them share their thinking and become the teacher for that problem. I also like to use the think-pair-share method and have the partner share the peer's thinking! Practicing active listening and engagement!

@psloanjoseph@Rdene915 A2: We incorporate the 4 Corners structure a lot so student get up, move, and talk to each other to express and discuss their answers. #formativechat
@psloanjoseph@Rdene915 A2: In my classroom, my students love tactile brain breaks with putty. We also love to put on a Cosmic Kids Yoga Adventure. The students really engage with the exercises and get to practice a bit of mindfulness with it too! youtu.be/LhYtcadR9nw?fe…#csp525#formativechat
A1 A favorite tech tool for boosting academic engagement is @nearpod. It's interactive, keeps students engaged, & provides real-time insights into their understanding. 📚💡 #EdTech#formativechat
Hey everyone. Let's jump right in to Question 1. Please reply with A1 and #formativechat. Let's learn and share about tech tools to increase academic engagement. @Rdene915
@Shapiro_WTHS It is all about creating a school culture of safety and curiosity. School staff can create a culture where asking and answering questions are encouraged. This can be modeled by the teachers in the school as well!
#csp525#teachpos
@TheThinkingProj@Shapiro_WTHS I agree! Admitting to an error or a lacking can be super difficult to engage with. It helps to know that even if others are not asking questions, they may have the same thoughts!
#csp525#teachpos
@Shapiro_WTHS A2: All of what you named. Also fear of looking bad, being needy, not being liked, being seen as doing a bad job. I read once that humans learn best through trial and error, but do it infrequently as adults b/c we're so uncomfortable with the error part. #teachpos
Amazing answers to Question one. Here is Q2.
1. Fear of not knowing
2. Fear of shame
3. Fear of reprimand
4. Fear of seeming stupid.
Others as well. Please know, asking questions is a sign not of fear, but of strength.
#teachpos
@Shapiro_WTHS Q2: A lot of fear comes from having to be vulnerable. Some teachers, including myself, want to have a facade of having everything together by asking questions, that can break the facade.
Asking questions can be a great way to learn more to do better!
#csp525#teachpos
@Shapiro_WTHS A1: Sticky notes and a parking lot encourage students to pose questions, and giving students a chance to answer the questions provides great peer tutoring and peer feedback opportunities. #teachpos
Here we go with Question one. Great group tonight. My answer.
1. Start slow
2. Praise
3. Safe space
4. Stuff they know
5. Cooperation
6. Never judge
#teachpos
@Shapiro_WTHS A1: Give ample wait time for all students to be able to process and come up with an answer. Once answers start coming in, praise them and allow the students to fully explain themselves. I also think starting with easier questions to start engagement!

@specialtechie@TechieCoach303@ShakeUpLearning Great idea! I know a lot of my students have a lot of knowledge about their Chromebooks and would love to help other peers and teachers. A google form would be a great way to read those tips and select a few for students to present to the class (or school)!
#pd4uandme#csp525
@TechieCoach303@l_simon24@ShakeUpLearning Ooh... you could also create a Google Form for kids to fill out to provide tech tips. I used to have kids fill out a form if they wanted to host the news. They'd record after school w/their chromebooks and I'd put it together. It doesn't have to be fancy! #pd4uandme
@teresamgross I think that this is a great way to promote problem-solving skills! I also love that they get a real-world application out of it as well!
#pd4uandme#csp525
@specialtechie At the elementary school where I teach, we have students who are part of videos on Fridays with our principal. It would be fun to see them go entirely student-led!
#pd4uandme#csp525
I think one of the easiest places to start is by getting a team together to create the school news. T's don't have time to do it on their own, but they can empower kids to do it with some training and support! #Pd4uandme
@specialtechie The counselor and I do ours. We have Kindness Club and a part of it is Kindness TV where 4th and 5th do the announcements for the day. We use wevideo to make it.
@TechieCoach303@specialtechie@ShakeUpLearning I was thinking the same thing!
It could start with students providing tech tips or having a designated classroom job as the tech helper. If a substitute was in the room, the student could help!
#pd4uandme#csp525
@l_simon24@specialtechie@ShakeUpLearning Same. I wonder how this could look on an elementary level. This is also a great way to teach responsibility with the devices
@specialtechie@ShakeUpLearning What an amazing way to empower student learning through real-life job-like experiences. This is a fun way to engage students with tasks that could prepare them for college or career!
