#teachpos A3 Many classrooms are still being run like they were in the dark ages, with students in rows and teachers doing all the talking. We have come a long way with STEM, PBL, UDL, etc. but it's inconsistent. Try the 80/20 rule. 80% student voice. #noexcuse

@PreK33 @Shapiro_WTHS One of the best (but sometimes overlooked) pieces of being a coach is just listening to a teacher's needs/wants/ideas/frustrations. It isn't always about giving the answer; sometimes it is just about listening and hearing what is being said.

@Shapiro_WTHS A3: Ask. Give your people a voice. Go to them during their paln or collaboration time and talk with them. My principal and instructional coach both did that this past week and it was so cleansing! #teachpos (I didn't know they were coming so the got what they got)

@LDunbar10 Simply helping students define the cognitive verbs they will encounter on tests (compare/contrast, analyze, justify, etc.) is a great first step to inquiry in the classroom.

A 1- Explicitly teach how and why to ask questions. Model asking questions A LOT. Small group questioning and opportunities to ask questions using other outlets. #teachpos

@Shapiro_WTHS A3: Promoting a culture of inquiry starts in the classroom. Create authentic learning experiences and place students at the center of the learning experience. #teachpos

@Shapiro_WTHS That is a true statement: everyone in the teacher lunchroom wants to offer a different answer to the question. It can be confusing and sometimes just negative in nature.

One hundred percent. Too many people immediately give an answer. Instead of promoting independence.
Donna M. McCance, M.Ed. ♥️@donna_mccance

#teachpos Not only do we want to encourage students to ask questions that they are curious about, we also want to encourage them to seek the answers themselves. We can guide them, but giving them the answers doesn't teach them how to be independent learners.

@Shapiro_WTHS It is a fear of someone thinking I am not cutting it in the classroom. It takes a great deal of trust to ask someone for help. #teachpos

Amazing answers to Question one. Here is Q2. 1. Fear of not knowing 2. Fear of shame 3. Fear of reprimand 4. Fear of seeming stupid. Others as well. Please know, asking questions is a sign not of fear, but of strength. #teachpos

@donna_mccance The think-pair-share is a great and simple tool to use in the classroom. Just need to make sure students are giving time to think before pairing with a partner and sharing with the class. #teachpos

#teachpos A1 Allow them to work independently with an "I wonder" graphic organizer to help them organize their thoughts & formulate questions. Also, "turn and talk" is a strategy where they love to share thoughts together, not answer to the teacher.

@Shapiro_WTHS A1: Sticky notes and a parking lot encourage students to pose questions, and giving students a chance to answer the questions provides great peer tutoring and peer feedback opportunities. #teachpos
