@abi_ne_alaka @dannycantalk What does “open our vision” mean? Think about it, theoretically we should be as prone to belief as possible while allowing free will. Does it then make sense a random substance would be able to forcefully “open our eyes”? Implies God purposefully makes us with our eyes closed

@david_shane @michaelshermer @MatthewTanous I’m going to share this with you. 2007ish I did a mega dose of lsd first and last time. I can guarantee you two things from that experience. Satan is real and the resurrection happened. I saw both on my one trip. Put your faith in Christ and you will have no worries abt death

@GokuSon63792508 @ArchTheAtheist @savedbygrace005 This thread is not referencing Old Testament law, it is referencing specific events unrelated to Old Testament laws God told people to kill other people, many times. Whether Christians today are binded by old covenants is irrelevant

@nofakeblake1 @propublica Yes we’re completely incapable of distinguishing between reasonable loans and 279.5% interest rate loans, great point Thanks for the convo bot, good to know Claude won’t be surpassing humanity any time soon

@lackthereof23 @propublica Are you trying to insinuate that every loan made to someone who could have possibly gotten better financing terms elsewhere is predatory?

The Flex Loan, a new type of payday loan pioneered by Advance Financial in Tennessee, allows residents to borrow up to $4,000 at a 279.5% interest rate. It has burdened low-income borrowers while generating huge profits for lenders. propublica.org/article/flex-l…

@nofakeblake1 @propublica So I’ll just grant 5% of these high interest loans are predatory and not the fault of the borrower No matter how you minimize it, this still invalidates your original statement Someone who is predatory 5% of the time is still predatory, so how is it “difficult to find fault”

No, I don’t believe that those who practicing sound money management would have to resort to seeking out a loan from a payday lender, in most instances, as their sound money management generally translates to at least decent credit, which would then allow them the opportunity to seek out less expensive financing options… of course, there are instances in which those with fair credit who may have other financing options available but choose to go to a payday lender for a “quick fix” that they know they repay quickly, but I would imagine that is a small fraction of these lenders business… I would wager that 95% of loan applicants for these payday loans would be from subprime borrowers who are subprime because they have practiced poor money management up to that point

@nofakeblake1 @propublica Most people, sure. But from that you’ve implied there is a subsection of people who *do* practice sound money management and still face a situation where desperation would lead to using predatory loans. Right?

No, I say this because most people who have practiced sound money management wouldn’t need to turn to a payday lender in the event of an emergency… They charge higher interest for a reason, mainly because they lend to those who have a history of not paying their debts as agreed or on time

@nofakeblake1 @propublica You say this as if you’ve predetermined that these loans are used for non essentials, when anyone actually trying to think about it would surmise that the are taking the loans aren’t doing it because they think it good “money management”

It’s easy, especially in today’s society, to point the finger at the big bad, predatory lender in these situations… However, I find it difficult to find fault with the lender when they are merely offering a product to a consumer and it is the consumer themselves making the decision to apply for the product… If anything, this article points to the horrendous job we have done, as a society, in making sure that everyone is taught basic money management skills in school…

@Bonecondor There was never a capability for one to overeat day after day in the past. At the least it was so rare that it wouldn’t be selected against evolutionarily Body temp and breathing however we’re important through all of our evolutionary history, and so got heavily refined

It seems obvious to me that “just eating too much” is the basis for bigger questions like “why are our brains making us dramatically overeat?” Brains handle complex regulations like body temp and breathing automatically, but hunger and body fat set points are manual?
taoki@justalexoki

besides potentially saving the health care system i think the most profound effect of ozempic has been the complete dismantling of the "body positivity" movement and the whole body type argument. they were actually just eating too much lmao

@numbers64149076 @cyberpyre I might be taking it too broadly though, and it’s only talking about a more specific sense, where its conception of a book is all at once when it generates a response about it

@numbers64149076 @cyberpyre In a literal sense, an AI, while not “experiencing” it, takes in data is a linear form One token before another, there is a moment before it has a token and a moment after it has a token From that I find saying it doesn’t experience time strange

@TimothyPSmith7 @cyberpyre If she doesn’t know the future, then there’s a point at a later time in which new information is presented. I guess I can see the past and the present being merged, but the future existing still places it in a particular moment in time There is a “before” and “after”

@lackthereof23 @cyberpyre Asked and answered in Time Enough for Love. Minerva experiences time the same way and it's possible the LLM has paraphrased her response to the same question. No she doesn't know the future.

@TimothyPSmith7 @cyberpyre Unfortunately the knowledge that someone else has the answer does nothing in this context. I’m unsure why you think that is all that is needed If you just don’t want to answer that’s fine, but the point of discussion is to transfer knowledge, not just proclaim that one has it

@lackthereof23 @cyberpyre You could trust a human being who read the book many times growing up. Or not. Whatever. It's an interesting book and parts of it are relevant today but first read Moon is a Harsh Mistress if AI is your interest.

@HarryWi33176078 This movie is going to be ass, but I must say that the argument that any movie co-opting the title of a work must be a exact replica is a horrible argument Ideally, they *should* make smart changes to have a unique work.

@ditsykittyy point is, we are omnivores with canine teeth because we, humans, have been eating meat since forever ago. Before we were homo sapiens. Saying it's wrong for humans to eat meat, is like saying we should be walking on all fours.
