Crazy that nobody has been in here since COVID. For reference, I was still a junior in college!

These communities are a return to "basal patriarchy" and can be very grim places for young men. Guess how they maintain a 4:1 female to male ratio? Other than a few chosen ones, the young guys are "encouraged" to hit the road at 18.
Lauren Self@laurenlself

Visited a self-sustained, off-grid polygamist community in southern Utah. They blasted into the sandstone rock formations to build cave-like homes for the 35 families and hundreds of children who live there.

@pat_in_thehat Also set this goal for myself, but I've been stagnant for about a year, I got to about 26/100. The annoying ones will be the historic houses only open to tours one or two days a week certain times of the year. Best of luck!

Going to every museum in Philadelphia: The Rodin Museum. The courtyard is free to hangout in. Indoor museum is really cool admission by donation. One lady got the "gates of Hell" and proclaimed it demonic and forced her friend to leave.

Naples is surreal. One of the last major bastions of authentic "Old World" culture and atmosphere left in Europe. A city that's really alive, not just a museum.
Baudrillard Forever@GroovySciFi

A scene of Neapolitan life. In the picture it looks serene, but I heard fruitmongers barking over the traffic, car horns blaring. A hawker calls ehii capo to me. But still the kids playing soccer in this little space between the church and the street.

@Wronglebowsk @mr_saltz It's a shame most of the people I know that can afford CC are some of the least frequent users of SEPTA & get away with mostly walking plus the occasional Uber. One mediocre experience and they bail.

@mr_saltz Nothing easier than living in Center City. I get access to both subways, short walk to Chinatown, Gayborhood, Rittenhouse. I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Still dreaming of visiting a living town based on the layout of ancient Pompeii. Majority of buildings one or two stories, with taller towers scattered throughout, a higher density than any modern capital and taverns and eateries on every corner.

@tinndfishmonger There's usually a couple of copies wrapped in plastic strewn across the sidewalk in front of the Land Title Building at 100 S Broad St that some tenant never picks up. I've indulged myself a few times.

@CavDante28 @brentos93 @hellspatisserie The AC beach is one of the few free ones in that area is positively brimming with people in the summer, plus it has train access from Philly. It just happens to attracts a different crowd than those places.

@brentos93 @hellspatisserie Most people go to the beaches in the surrounding towns (e.g. Ventnor, Margate, Brigantine), rather than AC proper.

@Thrivin096 @Colin_d_m Could compromise and do something like SEPTA's Market East station to get natural light plus a building on top, or build an 'E' shaped building with glass bottoms to the unenclosed courtyards between each appendage of the building.

@brezina I also describe non walkable areas as feeling claustrophobic to me, sounds counterintuitive to most people I guess, but you're so cut off from everything, little islands of public space between which you have strap yourself into a vehicle that you can't move around in.
