You look at Labour this week and wonder if anyone in government is thinking straight. Assisted dying back in Parliament. Labour MPs planning a “summer of sex”. Billions for cycle lanes while defence is underfunded. It’s like the Labour students union is running the country. Britain needs focus. Defence. Energy. Work. Security. Growth. So I’m giving a speech at 11am today on how we solve the problem of Defence funding. The Conservatives are doing the hard thinking because our country deserves better than gimmicks, drift and fatuous nonsense.

🚨 West Hertfordshire NHS Trust has signed off almost £487,000 on translation services. And it raises a simple question: Why? The NHS spends over £100,000 every single day on translation services across the country. But almost everyone has a device in their pocket capable of translating for free. And if a Brit travels abroad and needs medical treatment, they are generally expected to pay for their own translation needs. So why are British taxpayers funding tens of millions of pounds a year on services that modern technology can provide for free? At a time when patients cannot get appointments, waiting lists remain huge and NHS finances are under pressure, surely there are better places to spend the money. *Exclusively revealed on The Mike Graham show this morning. @Iromg

“One of the main problems in the countryside is dogs. Muslims don’t like dogs.” Liberal commentator complains that the British countryside is racist and Muslims avoid going there because too many people walk their dogs, which are haram in Islam. These people are truly insane.

So if Reeves’s claim that Brexit cost us 8% of GDP is correct it would mean we’d have grown four times more than Japan/Germany and almost twice France/Italy. Up there with Canada/US. If you believe that I have a bridge to sell you. In reality, even with Brexit, we were fastest growing European economy in G7. Just a tad more than France (with no Frexit).
Julian Jessop@julianHjessop

And here's headline GDP on the same basis (similar points apply)... 🤔

Today a group of Muslims prayed next to the Ministry of Defence, facing the Iraq and Afghanistan memorial. As I have said before, choosing to pray in this way in public is a political act. It is a social statement and, yes, it is an act of domination. Anybody who understands Islamism understands that the domination of public spaces is part of the modus operandi. It is done so Islamists can show who is in charge - and to show other Muslims and the wider public that the authorities will bend to their will. There is quite obviously no need to pray here. The decision to do so is symbolic and pointed. It is not welcome. We have freedom of religion in this country, which is why there are mosques. But we are not a Muslim country and this is not welcome. It should be stopped.

This is total madness from another unaccountable quango. The government must overrule Natural England and stop it immediately. Keir Starmer is on his way to making his last acts in office the shameful underfunding of our military and the mass slaughter of Dartmoor ponies.
Steven Swinford@Steven_Swinford

Exclusive from @oliver_wright Dartmoor ponies could be subject to mass culling to reduce the impact on biodiversity after a controversial ruling by the government’s environmental quango Natural England has demanded that all livestock grazing on the moor is reduced by about 75 per cent to protect other habitats, plants and species The move looks set to result in the culling of up to nine in ten of the semi-wild ponies as farmers prioritise their own cattle and sheep to remain within Natural England’s limit to minimise the impact on their own livelihoods Natural England argued that the move was necessary to protect the diversity of Dartmoor, which is a designated site of special scientific interest However, the plan goes against a government commissioned review into the future of Dartmoor, published two years ago, which concluded that Natural England “should not take actions likely to result in a reduction in pony numbers”, adding they were “invaluable for conservation grazing” The move has led to claims that the quango is acting as judge, jury and executioner of the ponies — a species which is itself seen as endangered Dartmoor ponies could be put to death under biodiversity plans thetimes.com/article/ba529f…

£163 million a year on taxis. How on earth is Buckinghamshire council spending that much money on taxi services? That figure seems wildly excessive and raises serious questions about value for money. Taxpayers deserve far more scrutiny and transparency over how councils are spending public money. Every pound wasted is a pound that isn't being spent on frontline services.

Andrew Matthews@LostinAylesbury

Buckinghamshire council spent £819 million over a five year contract period on taxis. £163 million a year on average. This is insane. The council could run an equivalent transport service for a fraction of this cost

According to this Labour Government 16 and 17 year olds are mature enough to vote, but not to serve on a jury. That is an "adult duty" apparently. They are old enough to vote, but are now subject to a government-mandated social media curfew at 8.30pm. The only consistent thing about Labour's votes at 16 policy is the blatant party political self interest.

🚨🗣️New: Thierry Henry reacts to the USA vs Paraguay stoppage for TV commercials: “I’ve spent my entire life in this beautiful game — as a player at the highest level, as a fan, and now as someone who analyses it every week — and what unfolded during that USA versus Paraguay match left me deeply frustrated. The fourth official standing there on the touchline, arm raised high, instructing the referee to hold the restart… not for any injury, not for tactical reasons, and not even primarily for player hydration in that scorching heat. No. It was because the broadcast team hadn’t finished airing all their commercials. That’s not football. That’s a television show pretending to be a World Cup match. The beautiful game is being strangled by greed. Players are out there in the heat, ready to restart, momentum building like a storm about to break — and we pause everything so the sponsors can cash in. It’s like stopping a symphony mid-crescendo because the advertisers want their jingle heard. Football didn’t conquer the world by turning into American sports with endless timeouts and ad breaks. We had rhythm, flow, emotion that flowed like a river. Now? It’s dammed up for dollars. This isn’t about hydration or player welfare anymore — it’s a slippery slope where the soul of the game is sold piece by piece. Fans deserve better. Players deserve better. The referee on that pitch looked like a puppet on strings controlled from some broadcast truck. Enough is enough. We need to protect what made this sport the greatest on Earth before it disappears completely.” The World Cup should be football’s cathedral. Instead, we’re turning it into a shopping mall with a pitch in the middle. And here’s the question nobody wants to answer: if the fourth official is waiting for commercials, then who is really running the game? FIFA? The referee? Or the broadcasters? Because the moment football starts asking advertisers for permission before asking the players, you’ve crossed a line. The World Cup is supposed to be the showcase of football. Not the showcase of who paid the most for airtime.”

Rachel Reeves's deputy admits it - Labour are funding more benefits on the backs of students. The interest rate on student loans is a scam. But Labour would rather rip off hardworking graduates to pay for more welfare than fix it. That tells you everything about their priorities. Conservatives have clear plan: stop the student loan scam by cutting real interest rates on Plan 2 loans, saving graduates thousands. Find out more ⬇️ stopthestudentloanscam.com

🚨 WHEN FORMER SPY CHIEFS MI6 START WARNING THE COUNTRY, PEOPLE LISTEN Sir Richard Dearlove did not mince his words. Britain, he says, is being governed by a "bunch of students" who fail to grasp the dangers facing the world. His concern is not party politics. It is national security. And when a former head of MI6 openly questions whether the government understands the scale of the threats ahead, that should concern everyone. Because intelligence chiefs rarely speak this bluntly unless they believe something has gone badly wrong. @TVKev
