Ministers say they accept the ruling, then immediately behave as though it is optional, conditional, or somehow waiting for a green light from the Equality and Human Rights Commission before it becomes real. That is simply not true. They were told they could act. They chose not to. Let’s call that what it is, not a legal gap, not a procedural delay, but a political refusal. There comes a point when the noise has to stop and the law has to speak plainly. That moment already came with the ruling of the UK Supreme Court April 2025 ruling on Equality Act. What we are watching now is not confusion or complexity. It is resistance, softened with the language of care, but resistance all the same. This is about whether the state still honours the meaning of sex in law under the Equality Act 2010 or whether it will continue to blur it until it becomes meaningless. The court clarified what many ordinary women already knew, that single-sex spaces exist because biological sex matters. That is not hostility. That is the basis of safeguarding. And then, as if on cue, the emotional crescendo. Children too afraid to use toilets. Claims of harm. Even the suggestion that a lawful judgment has cost lives. These are serious claims, but they are being used here not to illuminate the issue, but to close it down. Emotion is stepping in where argument should be. Distress is being used to override clarity. You do not get to nullify the law by raising the volume of suffering. Rights do not dissolve because they are uncomfortable to enforce. Girls’ right to privacy and dignity in single-sex spaces does not vanish because it is contested. That is precisely when it must be defended. @ForWomenScot has been consistent from the beginning. This is not about hostility. It is about whether the law still functions. Because if the category “woman” can be stretched indefinitely to mean anyone who claims it, then it ceases to function as a legal category at all. And when that happens, the protections built upon it do not evolve, they collapse every where as does safeguarding. And the truth is, the manoeuvre we are watching from ministers in this article is not new. @FAVORUK has been calling it out for years in a different arena. The false framing of harm reduction versus recovery was never the real shift. The real shift came when “recovery” itself was stretched beyond recognition, redefined to mean any positive change, any "stabilisation", until it required nothing and delivered very little. You are in recovery if you say you are. The word remains, but its substance drains away. It is the same trick playing out here. Keep the word, change the meaning. In one case, “recovery” becomes indistinguishable from ongoing addiction. In this case, “woman” becomes indistinguishable from self-declaration. And once that happens, the system does not become more compassionate. It becomes incoherent. Because once meaning is hollowed out, systems stop working. In addiction, it leads to containment rather than transformation, keeping people alive without helping them live. In law, it leads to protections that exist on paper but fail in practice. Because categories are not just words, they are the scaffolding that rights and responsibilities are built upon. Remove their boundaries, and the structure does not become more inclusive, it becomes unstable. There is also an honesty problem that cannot be ignored. The same voices now warning about “division” are often the ones who dismissed or silenced women when these concerns were first raised. The fracture did not begin with the court. It began when the meaning of sex was bent out of shape to accommodate an ideology, and dissent was treated as something to be managed rather than answered. We have experienced this exactly at @FAVORUK So this is not about proceeding carefully. It is about proceeding honestly. The law is already clear. The government does not need to wait. It needs to act. And if ministers cannot bring themselves to implement what the highest court in the land has already settled, then they should have the courage to say so openly rather than hiding behind consultation, delay, and endlessly deferred guidance. Because this is about rrdinary, everyday spaces where the law is meant to be clear and trusted. And that trust is already badly fractured. When a clear legal ruling can be acknowledged and then quietly sidestepped, when words are kept but their meaning hollowed out, the damage is not abstract. People see it. They feel it. They stop believing what they are told. At that point, the question is no longer hypothetical. If the government will not tell the truth or uphold the law here, in something this basic, why would anyone trust it on anything else? Well Done @_RebeccaMcCurdy #CourgaeCalls

Jane Lax - MND - find a cure
This quote applies to girls too. “They shouldn’t feel like they are being forced to make themselves ill by not going to the toilet at school because they don’t feel safe,” she said. “They shouldn’t feel like they need to self-exclude from school because they don’t feel safe.”

If ever there was a poster boy for why women need single sex spaces….

In Cardiff at the #OneYearLater event. Women are discussing their needs for single sex spaces whilst a man in a dress is shouting 'have you ever seen a TERF with any style' through a loudhailer. The difference in the seriousness of the message is extremely stark.

Fascinating that Green voters demanding a ban on the Grand National for animal cruelty suddenly short-circuit when you ask if they’d also ban halal and kosher slaughter.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has just been nominated to the UN Committee for Programme and Coordination to shape policy on women's rights, human rights, disarmament and terrorism prevention. The British government, of course, did not object to Iran’s appointment — even though the Iranian regime has been massacring thousands and thousands of protestors this year. At least it shows satire is not dead. NEXT UP> Satan nominated to investigate sin.
