Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Michael Schlattman was tragically involved in a fatal crash 2 weeks ago while on duty patrolling the East Mountains. He was an incredible leader, co-worker, partner, son, brother and all around human being. He lit up every room he walked into. Every memory involving Michael brings smiles, laughter and uplifts spirits. A fundraiser for his widow Tara has been setup so she can focus solely on mourning the love of her life. Sergeant Schlattman was the brother in law of one of our own LAPD officers and we are requesting for any assistance in donations during this difficult time for their whole family. Today marks the 5th year anniversary of the EOW for LAPD Police Officer II Jose Luis Anzora. On February 26, 2021, Officer Anzora was hit by a vehicle while conducting traffic control. Officer Anzora was transported to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries on March 3, 2021. Officer Anzora was born on August 18, 1989, in Los Angeles, California. He was appointed to the Department on September 12, 2011. Officer Anzora is survived by his wife, Heather; mother, Teresa; and brothers, Nelson, Carlos and Marcopolo. We will never forget the sacrifice and dedication that Jose had to his community and for the city of Los Angeles. -- We will also never forget LAPD Policeman James Kennard, who was killed in an automobile accident when he lost control of his police vehicle during a heavy period of rain. Policeman Kennard had served with the Los Angeles Police Department for 10 years in the Intelligence Division.

The LAPD is asking for the public’s help identifying a hit-and-run driver who fatally struck a pedestrian in Pico-Union last December. The victim was struck around 11:45 p.m. near Venice Boulevard and Malvern Avenue when a silver 2008 to 2010 Chrysler 300 traveling eastbound hit the pedestrian. The driver is described as a man between 50 and 60 years old, fled the scene instead of stopping to render aid. Detectives have released images of the suspect and vehicle, which may have a non-working driver’s side fog light and darker paint on the driver’s door. Anyone who knows more was asked to contact detectives at (213) 486-0760. Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…

Sometimes the best wake up call does not come from your alarm clock. It comes from the LAPD on a loudspeaker letting you know your boyfriend’s band is outside. After Banda R9 raffled off a Valentine’s Day serenade, one band member decided to surprise his girlfriend at her Koreatown home at 7 AM, not realizing she was still fast asleep. When phone calls failed, officers on patrol stepped in and used their PA system to help deliver the romantic assist. Moments later, she appeared at the door to find her boyfriend holding a bouquet as the band played on, turning an early morning patrol into a love song delivery service. “Driving while intoxicated is not a victimless crime and when Los Angeles politicians such as Councilmember Nithya Raman and Eunisses Hernandez repeatedly vote to cut police officers, stop enforcing DUI laws and end most other traffic enforcement, in the name of criminal justice reform, it only makes our streets less safe for every Angeleno,” the LAPPL Board of Directors said in a statement. When you cut police officers, limit proactive enforcement, and have weak laws that put the interests of perpetrators, including repeat offenders, over victims, you get the DUI crisis California residents are suffering through. This is not a theoretical debate. These decisions have tragic consequences on people’s lives. Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…

Repost via Sheriff's Employees' Benefit Association: It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of our SEBA President, San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Sgt. Grant Ward, who was called home after a long and courageous battle with cancer on February 1, 2026. He passed peacefully, surrounded by his wife, two daughters and his large, loving family.   A dedicated sergeant and a tireless advocate for our members, Grant led with integrity, strength, and heart. He was a loving husband and father. He also considered each and every SEBA member as one of his family.   Grant was a man whose zest for life never faded, even in the face of his arduous treatments and procedures.   He taught us to confront challenges with faith, determination, and a little bit of humor, reminding us that laughter truly is the best medicine.   We are grateful for the outpouring of love and support from our members and community. Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Memorial information will be shared in the coming days, once it is confirmed. Cards or condolences can be sent to either the SEBA Office at 1998 Orange Tree Lane, Redlands, CA 92374 Or The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department at 655 E. Third Street, San Bernardino, CA 92415

We condemn the continued and coordinated disruption of the Los Angeles Police Commission meeting, where agitators repeatedly shout obscenities, hurl insults at officers, and attempt to intimidate members of the public and media. Here’s the League’s statement: “The same anti-democratic, vulgar and vile individuals have been disrupting police commission meetings for years now. Their ideas on how to keep Los Angeles safe are laughable and no reasonable person takes them seriously because they act like clowns. These meetings should be a serious venue where policy is formulated and voted upon in a publicly transparent manner. Instead, every Tuesday, self-aggrandized cry-babies disrupt these democratic proceedings and claim they are representing the residents of Los Angeles. They are a pathetic lot and are in dire need of therapy.” @PaigeCurrent @californiapost @nypost Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…

The LAPD has a real “top dog” on the team, a bloodhound named Coco. Coco proved she has a nose for lifesaving work. During her first-ever search in the Angeles National Forest, Coco sniffed out the trail of a missing hiker and followed it deep into rugged terrain. After nearly nine hours of tracking, Coco helped lead rescuers to the missing person. Her handler says Coco’s nonstop drive and tail wagging determination are exactly what makes her such a good bloodhound. Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…

A Koreatown man is facing federal charges after allegedly throwing Molotov cocktails at security officers inside a downtown Los Angeles federal building. Prosecutors say the suspect targeted the building, which houses U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices, and was motivated by anger over immigration enforcement and a recent eviction. Authorities recovered additional incendiary devices at the scene, and the building was partially evacuated. The suspect remains in custody and could face up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted. Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…

Mayor Karen Bass is urging the City Council to approve $4.4 million to ramp up LAPD hiring, warning the city cannot afford to slow down. Police Chief Jim McDonnell says staffing is already down 1,400 officers from 2019, with retirements threatening to push levels back to the mid-1990s. With the World Cup just months away and the Olympics approaching, leaders say continued hiring is critical to public safety. LAPD has boosted recruitment by 27%, but officials stress funding is needed now to keep momentum going. Masked prowlers have returned to a Larchmont condo building for the third time since July, leaving families on edge as surveillance video shows suspects climbing onto the property and peering inside windows. A neighbor believes the same group has come back multiple times and worries they may eventually try to force their way in. A similar break-in in Bel Air last week, where intruders shattered a bedroom door and stole valuables in minutes, has only heightened those concerns. Police are now investigating both incidents as residents fear the suspects could become violent. Full story link: linktr.ee/protectiveleag…
