@rbarbosa91 Academic vs. community hospital for residency? A young GI doc from UCLA undergrad, MD, and residency recently told me when he began his practice as an attending GI doc he discovered that he did not know how to treat a simple UTI.

Don’t get me wrong, the world needs academic surgeons and academic output too. I don’t have the answer for that. I don’t think that paying them a little more, which won’t happen anyway, is the answer. Instead, I think the answer is to lessen the (self-induced) pain and hassle that goes along with academia. In academia, one is never really ‘off’…. 365 days a year, they have this gnawing feeling that they need to be getting more work done. Because the requirements for staying within academia are so stringent. So I think if they want more academics, then they need to make it less painful.

Residents won’t tell you this, but I’m 53 so I can: Some residents want to match into a competitive specialty and know that these are the hoops they need to jump through. Many of them weren’t ‘lost’… academia never had them to begin with. And that’s OK, too…

BREAKING: The White House completely loses it over Amazon announcing that they will put a “tariff price” next to every item they sell, depicting how much of the price of that good is the result of Trump’s tariffs. Karoline Leavitt says “This is a hostile and political act by Amazon. Why did Amazon do this… It’s not a surprise because Amazon has partnered with a Chinese propaganda arm.” Americans have a right to know. It's not political. It's logical!
