When you add in the fact that at the end of the 5 years, many people will become overqualified for some of the CT1/ST1 role they want to apply for AND get penalised for being too experienced in the specialty for ST3/4 level applications, it looks even worse. Eg orthopaedics.

The BMA saying IMGs must do 5 years of working in non-progressive roles to be able to qualify to start training sounds not so far from modern slavery to me - you may say this is extreme but if you look at the sort of rotas some JCFs are subject to? It’s an apt description.
