Much more work is needed before this is really a robust result (paper forthcoming, hopefully by the end of the year), but the initial findings are clear: Spacetime discreteness may be observationally detectable in things like quasar luminosities. (1/6)

@mostidas @getjonwithit Yes, exactly. According to the Wolfram model, space is a discrete hypergraph of nodes and edges, and rules are applied to the hypergraph one after the next, making time, too, discrete.

@getjonwithit Very cool!! Did I understand correctly that your discretized spacetime is a hypergraph, which evolves under graph rewriting rules? What’s the reference paper for that? Did you show that this approximates GR? In what way exactly?

@skdh This is the most measured assessment of the Wolfram Physics Project I’ve seen... _and_ it gives proper credit to Jonathan Gorard. Thanks @skdh for this!

@d0rc Not what I said. I said we know the continuous equations to work and we know it's difficult to approximate them in all circumstances with discrete equations and preserve all symmetries. With all due respect, I think you missed the point.

@curiouswavefn I wonder how the Russians spin the multiple failures of SpaceX rockets? The Russians are daring, experimenting, just like SpaceX If we use every failure as sad, rather than as an inevitable setback on the path to success, we’ll never get anywhere

As I read Dostoevsky or Chekhov or study the work of Russian scientists or mathematicians, it seems exceedingly sad to see what has happened to a country which had so many elements of greatness in it.

@DrBrianKeating Movies have big budget marketing teams to promote them Sports have legions of commentators to explain to fans what’s going on What’s wrong with all these people talking about movies, sports, science or anything else?

Why is it that science needs “popularizers”? Movies don’t Sports don’t Social media doesn’t It’s time we realize actual scientists have an obligation to develop their communication skills. We’ve been gifted the greatest script imaginable. The only thing holding us back is us.

These are 3D slices of a 4D hypershape known as the dodecacontachoron (120-cell) which is a tessellation of the hypersphere by 120 dodecahedrons.
