Unpopular opinion: Deployers didn’t kill memecoins. The real problem is that launchpads became extraction machines. Pumpfun generated massive fees from the very traders who created its success, yet most users never felt that value flow back into the ecosystem. There were 0 runners until Robinhood launched a chain, then pumpfun rushed to push a VC memecoin that they have full control over still giving 0 liquidity back to retail… We’ve seen this movie before. Magic Eden generated hundreds of millions during the NFT boom, but when trading activity dried up, so did the business model built around it. If your platform only extracts value without creating reasons for users to stay, eventually there’s nothing left to extract.
