So its actually happening! In the process of setting up a new charity for Diabetes & Mental Health. Pretty exciting, pretty terrifying but really looking forward to the future!
@laurenfriel@RNeilABlack I get it, I've sometimes explained it as DKA = speed, hyperglycaemia = weed. Over simplifying and nowhere near covers the risk but that's what the cognitive effects can feel like
#NDAW today I would like to talk about recovery from #Diabulimia and why it is so difficult. This will be in reference to the more severe end of the condition. Recovery from Diabulimia is rough. Firstly the diabulimic body is
@RNeilABlack@DrNotDrYet_Jacq Having high BGs & ketones changes my thinking. Makes me feel spaced out almost. to the things I try to avoid dealing with. Allows me to live in my head more easily even though that can be a dark scary place. It’s familiar and a scary kind of safe and comforting place.

Day 4 weirdest comment
When I was at uni a girl in my class asked did I not have to get as high exam results as everyone else to get into the course because of T1D 🫤
@laurenfriel@RNeilABlack We’re having a #NIdoc day to Belfast Christmas market in December… wanna come for the craic…? And the very lovely @ColeraineDUK folks are meeting next week for coffee?

Day 1 2 & 3
I’m Lauren and I have had type 1 diabetes for the past 17 years. I don’t connect with many other diabetics these days but would like to start reconnecting with the Doc 😊
#DiabetesAwarenessMonth
We are looking for adults with Type 1 Diabetes
and/or their family members to join a research
team at King’s College London to help develop a
grant proposal on preventing and managing
diabetes distress. Please express initial interest and we will provide more info.
#GBDoc
I was today years old when I learned there is a link between #Albinism and #Type1diabetes
I’ve only lived with albinism for 29 years and T1D for 17 years
What else am I missing 😂
Is there anyone else living with both conditions on here?
@Feehlo Try not to feel bad. All these things are there to help. Uni is tough enough at times. So make the most of all the support to help you through. It might even help free up more time for the fun stuff 😊
@CatchTheseWords a disgrace but not surprising. I was a OT student @UlsterUni most staff were unwilling to carry out the “reasonable adjustments” I required a a visually impaired student. When I graduated I had a meeting with student support and the then head of school her response was pathetic!
I don't care if they don't, as long as they get training from disability services. But if they want me to tell them how to make these systems better, that's actual work.
Uni have reached out about yesterday, probably because today is a pr nightmare for them. They have indicated that they want my support in improving their processes. I'm happy to do this but it's also reasonable if I ask them to pay me right? I don't exist to freely educate people
@SophieJSmith3@RCOTStudents@theRCOT@OT_Expert It was the only university offering OT course in NI. Everything about the course and some of the senior staff were awful I was advised to put a complaint in by student support but advised by working OTs that certain members of staff would make my working life as a OT v hard
@JackMcKOT2020 You wouldn’t believe it unless you were there. I’ve met 2 more of the students she also failed and they are amazing OTs. This lady no longer works in the NHS 🎉
Seen another negative Twitter post about poor experiences on placement time to shout again : AS OCCUPATIONAL THERAPISTS AND PRACTICE EDUCATORS WE SHOULD BE FACILITATORS NOT GATEKEEPERS!
