Stefanos Tsitsipas announces he has split with his father as his coach, ‘I prefer to keep my father in his role as a father, & only as a father’ “It is with a heavy heart that l inform you that my collaboration with my father as a coach has come to an end. I prefer to keep my father in his role as a father, and only as a father. Philosophy teaches us that wisdom comes through understanding our limits and acknowledging our mistakes. In my case, I realized that I was wrong to talk to my father the way I did. Tennis is not just a match, a hit or a performance of a few seconds. It is a long journey full of emotions, pressure and expectations. In that moment of frustration, there were many mistakes and errors on the part of my coach and father. As an introvert, I tend to hold in my emotions and build them up until I reach a bursting point. I consider myself patient, so the fact that I reacted this way left me shocked. My behavior on the pitch was unacceptable, and I feel disappointed that I got to a point where I showed a dark side of myself. When I feel disrespected, judged, or emotionally attacked, I tend to lose control of what comes out of my mouth, which goes against my values as a human being. llost control and could not see clearly in front of me. My father has been trying for the last few years to train me, raise me the right way and provide me with knowledge and wisdom, both on and off the field. I thank him for that. I thank him for the sacrifices, pain and suffering he has endured to make this endeavor a success. From now on, his role will remain within the contines of the father role, and that alone. My father will continue to travel with me and be there to support me and provide assistance off the field, as I have always wanted. I have trusted my father with the coaching role for so many years, and I consider our partnership to be successful. I'm not sure who will take his place, and I'm not in a position to decide yet. What I do know is that it is time to let this chapter and this phase close, and try to write a new one. We've both agreed to that and hope to focus on our human side first, then the rest. Accepting my mistakes and trying to mend my ways is part of my path as an athlete, and I assure you that I will continue to work hard to improve myself, both on and off the field. I hope this experience is a lesson for me, and for everyone who struggles to find the right balance in their lives.”

Shrink is my second agency. My first one failed. I started my first agency in 2015 when I was 22 years old. It was shortly after my Dad passed away and I had this strange internal feeling that I needed to make him proud. So that’s what I set out to do. I called the agency Grizzly Bear, which was a nod to my old man who was 6ft 2 and enjoyed a friendly bear-hug. I was working at a pub at the time. I had zero design clients but a strong motivation to make the agency work. My plan was to build Grizzly Bear alongside pouring pints. I got lucky with my first ‘proper’ design job. The manager at the pub noticed I had a love for designing and asked me if I wanted to create posters for all the pubs he owned. I said yes, obviously. This was the start of my ‘professional’ journey. From there, I evolved into branding and taught myself how to do brand workshops. Proper design work. And then it was time for agency life. However, that was short-lived the first time around as our values weren’t aligned. The logical next step was to go all in with Grizzly Bear. So that’s what I did. I got an office and some clients and built a team. Our biggest project was building an MVP for the NHS. So what happened? Well, as much as people like to make out (especially on LinkedIn), a strong passion and motivation aren’t always enough. As was the case with Grizzly Bear. I lacked the key ingredients needed to grow a successful business. Such as: • People skills • Leadership skills • Financial understanding • Strategic insight & knowledge Yes, I was decent at marketing and a good designer. But everything outside of that was a struggle. I spent WAY too much money and couldn’t crawl it back. But here’s the thing. I have zero regrets. I genuinely wouldn’t be where I am today without all the things I learned (failed at) with the Grizzly Bear venture. It’s made me such a better leader and team player. And it shows in Shrink’s growth… Revenue-wise, Shrink’s 1st year is set to be on a par with Grizzly Bear’s 3rd year. Has it been tough? Yes. Do I feel like I’ve aged 20 years in the past year? Yes. Is it worth feeling 55 at 30? Absolutely. There are a few valuable lessons here. Take what you will!

One of the mysteries of life for me is why we have designed school in such a way that it requires children to do so many things which are very hard for them - and which become much easier in adulthood. 1/
