Meadow news ! Lovely to hear from Lucy Metcalfe, Chair @ Friends of Victoria Park that more space has been created for nature in this popular Edinburgh park. What's more Primary 2 pupils from the local school will sow more urban pollinator seed mix.🌼🌻🐝🦋

Gorse thickets are very visible at the moment. They provide safe nesting sites for a range of birds, and a boost for hungry pollinators. Common gorse can be seen in many habitats, from heaths, coastal grasslands and forest margins to towns and gardens. scottishpollinators.wordpress.com/2020/03/10/gor…

The team at Scottish Wildlife Trust have just released a new scything video (see link below). Their short film shows the benefits of using a scythe to manage small wildflower sites, and was filmed last year at the NTS Robert Burns birthplace museum. youtu.be/Kn2kv_UOanY?si…

Fantastic video here 👇showing Lynne Bates of @ScotWildlife explaining the many benefits of using Green Hay to create new wildflower meadows. Economical, sustainable, local native seeds ... marvellous in every sense. Well done Lynne. 👏🐝🦋🌼youtu.be/w1uAmIeAw4w?fe…

The 1600s in Edinburgh, and Scotland as a whole, was a time of violent civil war, religious upheaval and bloody retribution. @EdinCulture look into their collections to tell the tale of this complex and horrific period of history for #Edinburgh900 zurl.co/PoWKT

‘Leave the leaves’ until end March. Many insects including some types of bees, keeping warm in them. (Maybe also even a hedgehog or two if leaves in heaps). #Biodiversity

Our colleagues from @EdinCulture take up the #Edinburgh900 baton with this latest story of Edinburgh during the 17th century. The City of Conflict story tells of one of the bloodiest times for the city. zurl.co/LH8O1

🚨Labour handing billions to Drax News suggests gov is about to hand billions more subsidies to Drax. This would be a disaster for forests, communities, our planet & push energy bills up even more. Tell Ed Miliband to make the right choice today: tinyurl.com/ed-dump-drax

Farmed salmon without the colourings added to the feed would look grey. Farmers actually have a colour picker called a “salmofan” they choose the colour they want and add in the amount of colouring into the feed. Only ignorant people eat farmed salmon.

Another fantastic Ray Cannon blog = Leave sleeping bees be! Sleep-like states have been described in insects for 100s of years, but it's one thing to observe insects resting or in a state of quiescence. It's another to prove they are actually sleeping. rcannon992.com/2024/12/01/lea…
