Thinking about the potential trauma unleashed for victims' families by recording court proceedings...Bernardo sex slayings were shown as video evidence only to a select few - not the gallery. Protect victims from further trauma - that's justice @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJFA22

@OJEN_ROEJ Wouldn't the court of public opinion decide which trials were in the public interest? Family law would be off limits, but some civil matters involving class actions etc. would be worth seeing. @OJEN_ROEJ

#OJENROEJFA22 We were intentionally vague to provoke this precise question! Let's think about some of the similarities and differences: Can the public have an interest in a civil matter? Are all civil matters between private individuals? Should the law distinguish civil/crim?
Loyola Law Students (HCDSB)@LoyolaLaw_HCDSB

@OJEN_ROEJ Many of my grade 12 students asked this question - is the proposal based on criminal or civil trials? At the end of the day, you have the right to an impartial judge and/or jury in both criminal and civil matters.

#OJENROEJFA22 new rule: you can unlock one hour of exciting trial coverage, but only after you watch 17 hours of the most boring trial procedures, like trying to pick a date for a hearing :P

@smillie_leah @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw For real - does anyone watch televised trials from beginning to end? Even in person spectators only see a snapshot of the entirety of evidence. Give people the option to tune into a trial if they wish. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJFA22

It is crucial that the public has access to first-person/untouched information about court proceedings (that display trial information accurately and entirely), to allow citizens to form their own conclusions about its content. (9/10) @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw #OJENROEJFA22

Prohibiting cameras in court is an infringement of section 2(b) of the charter and is a direct violation of Canadian citizens' Rights and Freedoms. (1/10) @OJEN_ROEJ @ProvostLaw #OJENROEJFA22

Cameras shouldn't be allowed in Canadian courtrooms because you shouldn't have to have your face broadcast to the country if you don't want it to be. Everyone should have the right to privacy, criminal or not. Public shaming doesn't deter crimes. #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

I think cameras should be allowed in Canadian courtrooms because the judicial process should be public. Cameras in the courtroom can keep the public informed and involved in the process. #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

The Youth Criminal Justice Act protects the privacy of young people who are accused or found guilty of a crime by maintaining the secrecy of their identity and other personal information. Exactly, how do live broadcasting trials align with this act, then? #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

The adoption of cameras in the courtroom has allowed for safer and faster court procedures. Certain actions such as recording or documenting footage for the purpose of redistributing should be prohibited in order to protect citizens' privacy. #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

Allowing cameras in courtrooms is not necessary, there are other ways to view courts and I don't believe putting the accused on public display is right. There are risks involved with filming and broadcasting, and using them in courts is removing trust #OJENRORJFA22 @OJEN_RO

No, cameras should not be allowed in courtrooms because it is a breach of privacy and can leak information that can be crucial to the case. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJFA22

#OJENROEJFA22 Cameras in the courtroom provide transparency and accountability for the justice system. It helps people trust that the right course of action is being taken. We need to make sure it doesn't become entertainment though. #OJENROEJFA22 @OJEN_ROEJ

Those living in tents have no where else to go, so why do individuals feel the need to remove them from the only place they can consider "home"? It's morally wrong to deny them access to the park, especially when it is a public space open to everyone. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

Cities should be able to remove tent encampments from public parks. Tent encampments in parks leave areas of the park dirty and littered with garbage, waste and drug paraphernalia which is both liability to the city and a danger to its residents. #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ

I believe that as long as the citizens that are sleeping in the tents aren't causing anyone any harm or disrupting the community then they should be allowed to keep their tent encampments in the parks. @OJEN_ROEJ #OJENROEJSP22

If the structures are on public land there should be no reason to banish them. Where there is a pressing need to break down the camps, find them a proper place to live! We have all been through challenges in the past two years, think about others :)) #OJENROEJSP22 @OJEN_ROEJ
