@LucastaHonoria This is, imo, the only acceptable way to do it, if you must acknowledge the secular observance at all at Mass.

The best Mother's Day practice I've ever seen was at St. Rita in Dallas. With everybody standing, right before the final blessing, the priest would offer a simple prayer of thanksgiving for mothers and mother figures.

I won't be going to mass on Sunday morning, because I'm in the choir and we're singing at the anticipated Mass on Saturday night for confirmation (80 confirmations!)

A discovery: I don't actually hate track meets. I just need it to be sunny and 75 degrees and have all my non-competing children parceled out elsewhere. Under these circumstances, it's a delightful way to spend half a day.

@TheSenator My only nonnegotiables: Big spaces. I need to be able to see the whole week at once. I have to have Sunday on the left (which is apparently very unpopular but a Monday start layout made me feel insane. I nearly missed multiple appointments in the month I tried to make that work).

Alas, I am too poor to do the majority of my shopping there, but I do love a Publix for cleanliness and customer service. And the cakes are truly spectacular. My wedding cake came from Publix.

Parents really posted this prior to a tournament game. How isn't 1 person in the group like, "Nah, this probably isn't a good idea." As their daughters warm up behind them. 🤦🏼♂️

@Zo_bo_fo_sho Driving/safety-wise, I'd imagine it's fine because they're going to be there all day? As long as nobody gets ugly with the girls or officials (an issue for some parents when sober, too, tbh), I don't see a problem. This may be my white trash roots talking, lol.

@OstensiblyChris @MmePapyraceus No opening date set; "second half of 2026" is as specific as I've seen. But it's being built right down the hill from me at Temple & 100. People seem very excited. I think I'm going to need to host a Wawa hoagie vs. Pub Sub head-to-head taste test.

@Zo_bo_fo_sho Would she be on board with a baby's breath crown or similar? Our school requires the girls to have either a veil or flowers, but there's a lot of flexibility there in level of "fanciness." It is going to be perfect and beautiful no matter what she wears, of course. 🥰

My daughter doesn’t want a veil for first holy communion and she doesn’t want a super fancy dress either she wants more of simple look- white cotton dress and white rose lace cover up- and I’m not going to make a big deal of that but all of the fancy little girls look so sweet!!

@drjmaj @kelly_o_edwards You can give him consumables for personal use, though. The stipend we gave a Franciscan who concelebrated our wedding was the same amount we gave the diocesan priests, but converted into cigars. Buy your priest a box of Omaha Steaks.

I don't think it's in Canon law...
But I firmly believe that if a parishioner palms me money and, with a firm handshake and solid eye contact says "Father, go have a nice dinner" I am morally obliged to do exactly that.
"Ok Google, find a steakhouse near me!"
