@LDSLaw It's either God's church and led by Him or it isn't. You either have a testimony or you don't. I'll tell you that I'm happy to see some of the ridiculous teachings like masturbation leads to homosexuality go away.

An LDS 𝕏 post. Over the past few years, I keep encountering a repetitive refrain from many fellow members of the Church. Many of you have a deep, abiding concern that can probably be summarized this way: The Church is slowly being eaten by a cancerous element of niceness/tolerance/progressive messaging. Doctrines are being softly effaced. Prior teachings are being abandoned. The Church is embracing a kind of globalist, liberal ethos and is soft-pedaling any and all of the former "line in the sand" teachings of the recent past. The prophets/apostles are not teaching clear doctrines because many of their messages can be ambiguous or interpreted in conflicting ways. Because of this, it won't be long before the Church has totally drifted off course and becomes no different than any of the other church in the world that have embraced progressive value systems. Gay marriage sealings are just around the corner. Does that accurately reflect the feelings that many of you folks have?

Yes. And anyone who has pondered these issues longer than a few minutes intuitively understands that great virtues, such as tolerance, respect, & love, can be transmogrified into vices, or even weaponized when isolated and when they become ends in themselves.

@LDSLaw Lol you think it's possible to have too much tolerance, respect, and love, in direct contradiction of the Prophet and the recently sustained President

The Danger of thinking, "God Is on Our Side" "I just don't think that's the Christian God." @JamesMartinSJ sits down with Jane Clayson Johnson on the “Deseret Voices” podcast to talk about the troubling implications of nationalistic prayer and why a God of peace cannot be used to will the destruction of the "other side" in global conflict.

@PopePiusXIIStan So many of you folks are deeply negative about the current state of the Church. It seems to be a common refrain.

@LDSLaw If the church used Roberts’ sevenths course in theology as the Sunday school manuals as they used to…I would feel much better about the future of the church

I think people are crazy to react the way they did. My views would be the same even if my wife wasn't pursuing an advanced professional degree. But here, it's easier because I am, in fact, living it. I just think folks are hypersensitive to perceived doctrinal drift, which I understand. But this isn't it.

@xyathon So what do you want ME to do about it? That's the real question. I can't fix gays or gay advocacy. Especially since we live in a country where folks are allowed to advocate for shit. Seriously, what is your proposed solution? We live in the last days.

@LDSLaw I’ll take you at to your word. The amount of gay couples doing this is capped at 5. There aren’t groups committed to enacting LDS doctrinal change: Affirmation LGBTQ Mormons, Families & Friends Human Rights Campaign Equality Utah North Star Saints Lift + Love Listen, Learn & Love

Agreed. I really think folks have totally lost the script. We're not Amish. We're not fundamentalists. We're not supposed to be extremists. I don't get it.

@ThisMomSaid I honestly can’t believe how much this blew up on the timeline. Easy heart and move on. I just can’t imagine lighting up this poor man for a post the church account made about him, even if you disagree. There’s just no need for that. Total self own by the LDSX community today.

There's more to life than mere logic. I happen to believe that God exists. And moreover, that He is an active God, and not a remote one. Even further, I happen to believe that our Church is divinely organized, administered, and led. If everything I've shared in this post is true, then we don't need to spend time obsessively worried about 5 gay couples taking the sacrament apocryphally somewhere in the world. We just don't. I personally don't have the TIME, ENERGY, OR SPIRITUAL POWER to worry about hazy hypotheticals. Taking care of my own soul is a full time job.

@LDSLaw I pray always, especially on issues like this. It is not my stewardship to act only to speak as a covenant member. I won’t try to belittle you by asserting my revelation over yours. I will invite you to contend with the actual logic I’m presenting and ask where will this lead?

@LDSLaw The youth seeing a gay married couple serve in callings and partake of the sacrament isn’t an abstract issue and is considering all the very relevant souls and people in that decision. Multiply that in thousands of stakes—how does that change the Church?

@LDSLaw A gay man has sex outside of marriage—> sacrament restricted. A gay man has sex within his marriage—> sacrament given. Call it what you want, but in practice, how is that not validation of the marriage? It didn’t come in an announcement or talk… just a policy in a big handbook.

@xyathon I'm a pragmatist. I tend to think we get into trouble when we take good concepts but then abstract them out to where we are no longer talking about souls & people. I think you're way, way, way overthinking this issue.

@LDSLaw The most important issues aren’t always the most prevalent, impactful, or meaningful—they are often the contested ones. No one argues that kindness & being nice to puppies aren’t good. They dispute whether we should kill babies in wombs out of convenience and castrate children.
