Imagine you're a WW1 general in 1914 and you know the history of the war but you're still trying to actually win. You know, with hindsight, that a trench deadlock is going to set in by the end of 1914. So the defender will have the advantage. But there is a crucial window of time before the deadlock sets in. So what should you do? Attack hard and fast, psuhing for the flanks, grabbing as much territory as you possibly can before the trenches start being dug. You want to have as much ground as possible and ensure the war is happening on enemy soil, not your own. You want those lines to be close to the enemy capital, not yours. You want as much bargaining power as possible if the war ends in a negotiated settlement. So your incentives are to attack hard - just like the real generals did. Once the deadlock sets in though, your strategy should change. Stay on the defensive, invest in new technologies and opening up other fronts to distract the enemy. A lot of WW1 behaviour makes sense when you think of what the constraints were.

@jypehama My guess is that it will be tied in to how the pension systems are set up in those countries. Those with social security funded pensions vs pension funds.

I am shocked. These numbers are the % of households within each country that have investments in stocks or funds of some kind. The numbers for Finland and Sweden are as I expected, but why is everyone else behind Finland!? These are wealthier countries than Finland!

@nikolaushaufler I don't know about Germany, but here parents get child support from the government and have to pay less taxes. So that's a big part of your "investment". Not to mention all the other government support for children the childless taxpayer has to pay for.

Grape. Arguably the most European fruit (the source of the sacred wine) is NOT an individual flavor in Europe. Europeans consume fresh grapes, but you won’t find grape jams, grape candy, grape sodas etc, and even grape juice while it exists is not really popular. This reminds me of this incredible “grape croissant” in Kuala Lumpur - a masterpiece in itself, and they probably thought they were giving it a very authentic European vibe with the oh-so-European grape, but the reality it that you will never find grape as a flavor accent in Europe.

A lot of those films are appreciated, cult classics, or staples of the genre.. but they're not especially successful at the theater. You could add up every single film from all of those franchises.. all 27 of them. And they would've grossed only about 300 million more than the Avatar franchises three movies.

You know what's an interesting thing people almost never acknowledge? Almost all of the most successful Science Fiction films are optimistic Science Fiction. Avatar (it intends to be), ET, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Star Wars, Star Trek... it goes in and on.
