NEW: Josh Simons, the MP who stood down from his Makerfield seat to make way for Andy Burnham’s return to Parliament, says he won’t be going into Downing Street as he wants to “take a breather”. He says: “Two months ago, I resigned as an MP. This was a tough decision that my wife and I made together because we believe Andy has the courage and humanity to lead the change people are crying out for. “Since then, it has been a privilege to help Andy and his brilliant team prepare for power. But now it’s time to take a breather. My son was born in difficult circumstances just a few weeks ago and I miss my family. “I've told Andy and my colleagues that in the coming months, I will be supporting them from the outside in every way I can. “Next week is the beginning of a new era for the Labour Party. We must be a proud, big tent party that welcomes debate and celebrates people and ideas from across the country and from all walks of life.”
