the odyssey is like, fine? lots of bwoarrr-bwoarrr sounds, damon and holland on good form, a good story well told, but it does feel a bit like a long trailer for the film itself, and i didnt feel an ounce of emotion

@Samfr But we are going in the opposite direction of all the high-performing countries on all this. What’s the point in regurgitation of knowledge when we all have the knowledge we need at our finger tips. It’s how we use, manipulate, combine and create with that knowledge that’s needed

@leafarbuthnot @Simmons__ Michael Simmons: "I am lucky. As an adult, it (his cerebral palsy) causes me relatively little trouble, beyond a strong aversion to standing up for too long." So he gleefully throws all severely disabled people - who *need* substantial care and financial support - under the bus!

I’m staggered that Burnham has promised to end rough sleeping across the country. It was his biggest promise when he became mayor of Greater Manchester and he didn’t come close. Here are the numbers, as revealed by @ManchesterMill last month.

Genuinely willing to be surprised on the upside but that speech was same old empty rhetoric about how everything went wrong forty years ago, I’m a really nice guy, let’s all be nice.

This is a brilliant read from the brilliant @mickbrownwriter. Me and Mick caught one of the world’s most wanted men and we’ve done a podcast to prove it. Episode two is out now and, even if I say so myself, it’s rather good telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07/1…

I had a lovely day out in Stanton St John speaking to villagers arguing about the closure of a local lane. Particularly enjoyed the view of some Bulgarians who pretty much summed up village life at the end of the piece telegraph.co.uk/news/2026/07/1…

NEW: Andy Burnham appears to be playing down prospect of a wealth tax *for now* - but doesn't rule it out in future. He tells @GaryLineker podcast: "I don’t want to come in and create new divisions and pitch people one against another. “I’m not going rule things out right now. I do believe we need a greater sense of fairness and people feeling that things are being done in the right way and a fair way. "But at the same time, I don’t want to be perceived as somebody who’s coming in with grudges and agendas and going to just immediately find or demonise one group or create a new way of dividing people." But then he adds: "Decisions to be taken in time, they’re going to be difficult. I’m not going to shy away from that. We are going to have to work quite hard to make sure we can pay our way. “And at some point that might be having to ask for a little more. But those decisions are not for now. They’re for another day.”

Doesn't feel very fair that we are paying towards the state pensions of 67-70 year olds that we will never receive whilst also paying student loans that generation never had to pay.
