@memeticsisyphus It doesn't take a giant leap to make the logical argument that believing things that contradict scientific consensus can actually make you a better scientist.

Very little rests on one’s belief the universe is billions of years old or thousands. If you believe God made it appear old or it is simply doesn’t matter, even for a physicist, even for an astronomer. It’s a position with no real stakes. It doesn’t affect how one conducts themself in the world. There are plenty of scientific beliefs that do affect how we interact with the world, how we think society should be organized, what policies we think will be useful. Many of these beliefs are rejected by the same people who mock young earth creationists. Topics like, do our genetics affect our behavior, temperaments, intelligence? When does life begin? Are there biological basis for social roles such as gender? There’s also a failure to understand what a scientific paper shows and does not show. The weakness in methodology and an increasing reliance on statistics done on statistics. A complete implosion of the credibility in the soft sciences, and increasingly all science, as study after study is found to be non-replicable. This faux-empiricism is only a tool for a specific world view, and is quickly dropped when inconvenient. Today a weapon to mock a sect of Christians, tomorrow a tool of white supremacy to be condemned as bigoted.
ΘΔ Rush Girl 🔆✡️@kripchakmentum

it’s actually a third thing: the traits that the organized pursuit of knowledge selects for are in direct conflict with conservative politics. it is hard to be an effective physicist when you believe the universe is 5000 years old and want to deport your international students

Nikki is an exact representation of BPD. If you've had a partner with BPD, you know this is not an exaggeration. The stories I could tell... Even often times believing she may have been possessed. Fortunately for my partner, I paid for the medication and therapy, and stuck with her through it. This is why I believe the author likely dated someone with BPD.

To be fair this movie ( #Obsession ) is a great representation also of how people around you will treat you during a mental health episode/breakdown. The second you show ur mental illness every treats you like you have the plague or you’re crazy or toxic. You think in that moment that your loved ones will see that you’re not acting like yourself and try to help, but most of the time they just get the ick and forget about you and switching up. Her friends abandoned her bc she got in a relationship, and when she started literally bashing her head in at a party everyone just ignored her.

@BowTiedPassport Got that VC blood. It's why I love hearing stories about the VC. Those guys were bad asses. I'm not knocking our guys, but by the standards of Vietnam, our guys lived in luxury compared to the VC.

Had this exact Asian dude in my unit. Chillest dude you ever met. Wondered why he came off as a shitbag in garrison. Pulled his file. 4 deployments. Airborne, Air assault, Pathfinder. Golden knight, air assault school instructor. Would show up at 4am, run an 11:40 two mile, then smoke a cigarette and drink a monster before the sun was up. Retired to Texas

You’d be surprised how many of this exact type of man are in the USMC, Ranger Regiment, Special Forces, and PMCs 5’4” dude who just loves fighting, hiking up mountains with AMR as tall as him etc

Jay Leno says customer service is the real reason he chose McLaren over Ferrari. “When I was a young man, if you went into a Ferrari dealership, you couldn’t buy the GTO. You had to buy two Mondials first.” “It was a certain elite feeling to it. I didn’t like it. They don't need my business. I like people who need my business.” “When I bought my McLaren, they said, 'You gonna track it?' I said, 'No.' 'Save 20 grand, you don’t need 'em. These are just as good.' I felt like a customer.”

♣️Jokic & MJ♦️GOATs fan
Shaquille O'Neal spoke the truth in the GOAT debate 🔥 ''See, uh I played against both of them. I know what it feels like to have LeBron charging down the lane. He’s strong, fast, a freak of nature, respect. But when you stood across from Jordan, it was something else. The air got heavy. You knew the game was his the moment he walked on the floor. He wasn’t just trying to beat you, he wanted to break you. Six championships, six Finals MVPs, never lost when the stage was biggest. That’s the killer. LeBron’s had a great career, no question, but kids today, they only see highlights, social media clips, and the hype machine around them. They don’t know the fear Jordan put in people’s eyes, the way he lifted this entire league to another level. That wasn’t marketing, that was greatness you could feel in your chest. So when the younger generation throws around goat like it’s a hashtag, I just shake my head. Respect the past. Do your homework. Because before LeBron ever called himself the king, Michael Jordan showed the world what true royalty looks like.'' ーsource : ( SA Gems ) Shaq's honest words, spoken after his life-or-death battle and rivalry with MJ, resonate 100% with us NBA fans around the world. We respect you for speaking the truth without fear of public criticism and without betraying MJ and Kobe. 🙏

This reminds me of that "Lego" study where the toy maker determined that boys try to become the toy they are playing with while girls try to make the toy become them. Boys will take a Batman toy and imagine what it is like having all the cool gadgets and fighting crime, while a girl will take a Batman toy and have tea parties with him and send him to prom with Barbie. This is literally what feminism does to media, and why women in media destroy masculine archetypes.

Gary Sheffield called time after Pedro Martinez was about to throw the ball. Well the umpire granted it and that didn’t sit well with Pedro. The very next pitch, he beamed Gary. Old school baseball at its finest.

If I had to choose an extremist faction to support — like if it came to that — then it’s not like there’s any question whether it should be the far left or the far right. Like, when all reason has failed and we’re just shooting each other, I’m obviously on the team that at least nominally supports people exactly like me specifically and not the team that has complete contempt for me specifically

If she couldn’t see this as a possible outcome to her decision then she didn’t put the appropriate amount of critical thought into her ruling, and she should’ve be on the court… The monetization of anchor births is such an obvious conclusion to birthright citizenship combined with welfare state.

President Trump has indicated that the United States will seek rehearing of the Supreme Court's ruling on birthright citizenship. Rule 44 allows 25 days to seek rehearing. It requires the support of at least one Justice from the majority, and is rarely granted.

My mother did the exact same thing. She mentioned it in passing as if it didn't mean anything. I explained to her that the land was my connection to my grandfather, whom I loved dearly. When I dream, I'm always on that land. Now it's covered in trailer parks. She just said "I needed the money."

I love my mother to death, i do. But recently she talked about selling family land. And that was when I really woke up to women in charge of anything. Because you NEVER sell family land. For any reason. You don’t part it out, subdivide, no. That is ours and is passed down.

In school, eye contact made you an immediate target for harassment and violence. I remember keeping eyes on the floor at all times, not daring to look up especially if I was already being harassed. To this day, I go into full fight or flight if I make eye contact with a stranger. Flop sweats, narrow vision, hearing loss. I’ve been to years of therapy over this issue. Has had immeasurable impact on me professionally and personally.

@leastbelogical @uubzu An old friend of mine who grew up in Louisiana at an all black school told me how she used to get brutally beat and stuffed in a closet for most of the day every day and the teachers and staff encouraged it. She ended up with major mental health issues and trooned out. Sad.
