Walked into the hotel before heading out to the A&M vs Texas Southern game, and look who the good Lord allowed me to bump into. The man who brought me from Maryland to Texas. The newly inducted member of the University of North Texas Hall of Fame Coach @CoachJohnnyJ12 and his son John Jones. God brought it full circle. He coached me, and now he is about to coach against my son.

Can I take you into a seat I will never forget?
I was in the stands watching my son warm up for his first live college scrimmage in front of fans.
The layups looked the same. The ball sounded the same. But the air felt different.
I will tell you why in a second.
I had to take a breath.
Because this was the moment where all the sacrifices started to make sense.
I grew up in a single parent home. One income. Three kids. Somehow my mom found a way to send me to private school all four years of high school.
I did not understand the depth of that sacrifice then.
I do now.
It is one thing to push yourself and reach Division One. It is another thing to sit in the stands and watch your child do it.
To see him walk onto that floor. To realize he is competing at a level even higher than you ever did.
That is legacy. That is purpose. That is God whispering keep going.
Hold that thought, because here is what landed on me in that gym.
Every unseen ride to practice mattered.
Every quiet talk after a tough game mattered.
Every morning your child chose work over comfort mattered.
You may not see it while you are in it. The progress can feel slow. The scoreboard can be loud. The doubt can creep in. Is this worth it
Then a day like this arrives and closes the loop.
You see your own belief running up and down the court. You see your faith in their eyes when they step to the free throw line.
You see the hours no one clapped for show up in the way they defend without being asked.
And you realize the sacrifice was never just about basketball. It was about raising a young person who knows how to do hard things with a steady heart.
So what do you do with that if you are still in the middle of it
Keep showing up.
Keep believing when the progress feels quiet.
Keep trusting the work when the crowd is louder than the growth.
Keep choosing substance over noise.
Because one day you will sit in a gym and feel what I felt. The breath you have to take when it all makes sense.
Let me say it to you the way I wish someone had said it to me sooner.
Your sacrifice matters. Your presence matters. Your patience matters.
And your child is noticing even when they do not say it out loud.
Success is a Choice,
Coach Green
