@phonekills I hate seeing videos like that. An easily avoidable situation that the cyclist willingly chose to put themselves in. Is the van driver at fault yes, was the cyclist in vans blind spot and had the cyclist a better view to asses and avoid, Yes. A lack of situational awareness.

I'm not a fan of publishing an event and rejecting criticism straight away. Safety of the vulnerable road users is at my heart as you can easily check. The driver should not force his way and could have fooled the cyclists by slowing down and then speeding off (looks like it was because he went over the kerb). Having said that we need to take a defensive position as well and that is a scenario that in my honest opinion I'd wait to not take risks. That is my 5 cents and I'm sad the author seems to not be open to hearing this.

@RoadmanCycling Impossible to answer in one word but I'd certainly think social media has a role to play. A lot of nonsensical hatred on there and there's zero accountability. Some people have forgotten what a smack in the teeth feels like and think they can do as they wish

@Independent_ie How is this house still standing? The demolition order went through a long time ago. If anything it's their appeals that will be wasting tax payers money. Seems an awful waste to knock it but they paid their money and took their chances. It didn't work out 🤷‍♂️

@Brenbyrn2 @IrishCycle Perhaps some cyclists think this and some people that don't cycle also for that matter. 🤷‍♂️ I do get your point though but it does highlight that some motorists believe cyclists are some kind of singular mind and all act the same and have the same beliefs.

@IrishCycle To be fair it wasn’t intended as a dig. My point is that cyclists think all car owners are the enemy & the nature of social media & particularly twitter your followers are likely to be anti motorists. Climate activists follow environmentalists, climate deniers follow their biases

@belfastbicycle1 @Bowseygobrea Don't have one myself, but I can pull a one and half tonne digger with a 2.5 Jeep. With a ranger, I think a 3 tonne might be possible. People who can afford a good strong, plastic all over the place, jeep/ pick up should definitely be happy to have one. No jealousy here.

Gardaí on patrol in Dublin last night. Operation Citizen involves daily coordination of Gardaí from Pearse Street and Store Street conducting high visibility foot, bike and mobile patrols in areas identified where instances of anti-social behaviour and public order offences occur
