Everyone in Singapore above the age of 21 is automatically registered as an organ donor unless they choose to opt out. People who opt out are given lower priority for organ transplants if they ever need one themselves.

@StephenFleming @AirFranceKLM I got the same from Air China, to my pleasant surprise. Flight from Singapore to Beijing, only premium economy. My Japanese luggage lost a wheel on the inbound and Air China gave a good replacement on the spot no questions asked.

Kudos to @AirFranceKLM. They destroyed my wife’s suitcase (stuff happens), so we trudged to the service desk. I was hoping for some duct tape and expected to fill out a form where, maybe, they’d send me twenty bucks in six weeks or so. Nope! The friendly and efficient clerk apologized for the damage, measured our suitcase, went into the back room, and returned with a brand-new suitcase, the same size, still in the shrink wrap. We swapped the contents right there and rolled out of baggage claim with the new suitcase. Nicely done. That’s the sort of service I’d expect from Singapore Air, not a European carrier. (By the way, what happened to @SamsoniteUSA? Apparently they’re no longer gorilla-proof…)

I’ve taken this flight about two to three times. It is absolutely miserable, Just don’t do it, way better to get the transit and stretch out your legs than try to rawdog the Asia to America route like this. It’s actually this flight that made me pretty averse flying to America tbh, I don’t know how some of you do flights that are 6+ hours regularly.
Mario Nawfal@MarioNawfal

🇺🇸🇸🇬 NYC to Singapore is the world’s longest regularly scheduled, non-stop flight. 9,500 miles. 19 hours in the air. In-flight movie? Try the entire Lord of the Rings trilogy… twice.

Will Smith eating spaghetti 2026 just dropped. If you are actor or someone in similar creative field, you should be looking to train a licensable version of your likeness / voice right now before the tsunami hits. When the wave comes in a few months, you'll already be sitting pretty with different age versions of your AI likeness, with ready to go contracts.

One of the biggest fears about AI right now is that it will make inequality worse. It depends. Those of us who study the mind have long recognized two distinct types of intelligence: crystallized intelligence (CI) and fluid intelligence (FI). Crystallized intelligence is acquired knowledge—what you’ve learned and can recall. Knowing that the Japanese carriers Akagi, Kaga, Hiryū, and Sōryū were sunk at Midway is crystallized intelligence, not fluid. CI can be trained, it tends to rise with age, and it closely tracks socioeconomic status. Fluid intelligence, by contrast, is raw biological hardware. It’s largely stable across life and constrained by genetics and physiology. It’s what lets you instinctively understand why the model flirts with the billionaire rather than the fast-food worker. The classic path used to be simple: identify a young person with high FI, give them a scholarship or access to resources, and let them build their CI into something productive. Before the internet, the main barrier for disadvantaged high-FI people was access to books and good schooling. Once libraries and the internet arrived, that access barrier largely disappeared—provided you had enough fluid intelligence to actually make sense of the material (ie Medium FI). What AI does now is remove even that final limit imposed by being born with just medium FI. Don’t understand what “Vivian Balakrishnan deployed Nanoclaw on a Raspberry Pi for MFA work” means? Just ask the AI to explain it to you. It will be the most affordable, patient, comprehensive, 1 on 1 teacher you can get. Even the most basic free LLM can do that. There is no longer any excuse. Low-FI people have always been at a disadvantage. AI doesn’t change that fundamental reality. Instead it kindly gives them a ladder to the learning spaces once gated by minimum requirement of medium FI to comprehend things. It's up to them to choose whether to climb it or not. The new inequality will not be between rich and poor—it’s between acceptance of AI and rejection of AI. It will be between people who eagerly use AI to accelerate their learning and people who refuse to (the new Luddites).

@MugenLord There's a joke about Asian parents and grades: A is for "average" (as in, what's expected). B is for "barista" (as in, that's what you'll have as a career). I can't remember what C is for, but D is for "dead" 😂

Wow, I found my senior high school photo of my Business Teacher and me, Ms. Lu, back in 2005. She shaped me into the person I am today. She was so hard on me, and I didn't get it at the time. I remember the time she gave me an after-school detention for scoring an 85 on my Accounting test. The rule for this exam was that if you scored below 70, you would receive detention. As no surprise, the 8 Asian students in our class scored 105, and I was the only student who scored in the 80s. The rest of the class failed, and yet she still handed me a detention. I thought she was picking on me. I was furious, and she pulled me aside. Then she told me why she made this decision. Ms. Lu: You're so smart and yet so lazy. You do the bare minimum to get by. The look on your face after receiving that 85, you settled for that score, knowing you have the potential to aim much higher. You are an "A" student, nothing less. There's hope for you, and I don't want you going through life doing the bare minimum and settling for it. She told me that I can score a 105 and I didn't believe her. I didn't believe I was as smart as those Asian students in my class. But she told me I am just as smart as them if I stop being lazy. Boy, that put flame under my ass, because the next Exam I scored a 110, 5 points higher than the smartest Asian Girl in the class at the time. She was pissed and in disbelief that I had a higher score than her. The class was generally surprised that I pulled it off. Since then, I was an "A" student in her class. I even surprised myself, and I thank Ms. Lu for that. I miss my teacher. I wonder how life is going for her right now?

"Elon Musk isn't an engineer" Jensen Huang: Elon is an extraordinary engineer. He is singular in his understanding of engineering and construction and large systems and marshaling resources. John Carmack: Elon is definitely an engineer. He is deeply involved with technical decisions at SpaceX and Tesla. He doesn’t write code or do CAD today, but he is perfectly capable of doing so. Tom Mueller: Elon is a super smart guy and he learns from talking to people. He’s so sharp, he just picks it up. He is leading the development of the SpaceX engines, particularly Raptor. Eric Berger: Elon is the chief engineer in name and reality. Karpathy: Elon has an incredible ability to reason from first principles. It’s very rare. Robert Zubrin: Elon Musk is a brilliant engineer with an extraordinary ability to cut through nonsense. When I met him it was apparent to me that although he had a scientific mind and he understood scientific principles, he did not know anything about rockets. Nothing. That was in 2001, by 2007 he knew everything about rockets – he really knew everything, in detail. You have to put some serious study in to know as much about rockets as he knows now. This doesn't come just from hanging out with people. Yann LeCun: He’s a very smart guy and I’m in awe of some of his projects. Garrett Reisman: He’s obviously skilled at all different functions, but certainly what really drives him and where his passion really is, is his role as Chief Engineer. That’s the part of the job that really plays to his strengths. Josh Boehm: Elon is both the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Technology Officer of SpaceX, so of course he does more than just some very technical work. He is integrally involved in the actual design and engineering of the rocket, and at least touches every other aspect of the business. Elon is an engineer at heart, and that’s where and how he works best. Kevin Watson: Elon is brilliant. He’s involved in just about everything. He understands everything. If he asks you a question, you learn very quickly not to go give him a gut reaction. He wants answers that get down to the fundamental laws of physics. One thing he understands really well is the physics of the rockets. He understands that like nobody else. The stuff I have seen him do in his head is crazy. He can get in discussions about flying a satellite and whether we can make the right orbit and deliver Dragon at the same time and solve all these equations in real time. It’s amazing to watch the amount of knowledge he has accumulated over the years.

Elon Musk is an engineer. Jeff Bezos is an engineer. Larry Elison is an engineer. Larry Page is an engineer. Sergey Brin is an engineer. Jensen Huang is an engineer. Turns out capitalism does reward skills and intelligence, and the richest people are indeed engineers.

@Linahuaa You have some good takes but these definitely aren't 7 average. Only the blue top right middle hits a 7. The 2nd row, head only white shirt girl in the left is also a possible 7. The rest are 6 average, with about 3 or 4 battleship sized 5s.

This is what an above average group of 7/10 American girls looks like. They're business students from a very good school (which already raises the average by a lot) They also have significantly below national average BMI. They gonna be top 15% earners. So, in order to looks and status match with them, you should be about 6 feet tall, be in decent shape, dress well, and earn about $150k. The numbers don't lie.

No. It's not illegal to chew gum in Singapore, only to sell it without permit (medical and teeth cleaning gum is available here). Also the police do not pursue every crime even though cctv video is readily available. For instance there are 14,000 cases of voluntarily causing hurt in SG a year but only 30% are investigated by police with light touch being applied to the rest. asiaone.com/singapore/when…

It’s Singapore. It has nothing to do with obedience. You cannot cross the road when the lights are red even if it’s empty because you will be fined. There are crosswalk cameras that take photos of you. You’ll be fined if you’re caught smoking or chewing gum.
Rothmus 🏴@Rothmus

I’m conflicted. On one hand, I respect people who follow rules and help maintain a civilized society. On the other, when I see pedestrians waiting obediently at a crosswalk with no cars in sight simply because the light hasn’t changed, I can’t help but think Ted Kaczynski was right about humans becoming slaves to technology.

Singapore’s AI obsession just hit Everest peak. The Foreign Minister is self-hosting Claude on a Raspberry Pi and building a diplomatic knowledge graph using Karpathy’s LLM Wiki pattern. Wahlao! SG devs, the minister is coming for your job. And he’s not even using Cursor — he’s on NanoClaw running locally. Can someone git pull his code and give it a test. Only bad thing? He dropped this on Facebook instead of X. Minister, we need to talk. gist.github.com/VivianBalakris…
