Yes, students need rules, but even more so, they need routines, boundaries, high expectations, and responsibilities. The first doesn't require relationships, just enforcement, but the rest depend on a strong relationship to be effective.

The impact of Damar Hamlin's injury has been so incredible. It's brought out the best in us. I see so much kindness/sympathy/compassion. The most amazing thing to witness is our collective dependence on God. We were hurt/lost & immediately turned to Him. How powerful is our God!

My classroom management improved when I focused more on creativity and collaboration and less on compliance. Instead of trying to catch kids doing things wrong, we celebrated the amazing things they did well, and those “things” got exponentially better because the fear was gone.

A real focus on student success would include: * later start time and shorter day * more Arts, Physical Ed. * more recess at elementary * More focus on students strengths * more divergent learning (innovation/ creativity) *less high stakes testing * more fun

Your words have power. Replace HAVE TO with GET TO today! Life is a gift, not an obligation.

Admin, when doing walk-throughs, especially informally, don’t feel you have to add a critique EVERY time. Too often teachers are told, "you did great BUT", instead, " Leave the BUTS behind”. Let them know what they did well & move on. Leave them feeling validated & appreciated!

We can’t control the home environment of our students, but we can surely control their classroom environment. When they’re under our care, they can feel safe, feel supported, and feel loved.

No matter what happens today, remember... You might not be able to control all of yours circumstance but you can control how you respond to them. Pause. Look for the good. Trust in a bigger plan. Respond instead of react.

The first week of school should focus on building relationships. And part of that is establishing routines, procedures, and expectations. Consistency helps students feel more secure.

If you’re in need of inspiration, my best advice to you is to talk to some kids. Genuinely get to know them. In my experience, an awareness of how cool they are… and an understanding of how needy they are…reminds me of how important my work is. It motivates me to keep going.

You don't have to be great to serve but you have to serve to be great! Every day you have a choice... You can focus on what you can GET or what you can GIVE. Love. Serve. Care.

Shoutout to all the educators who view hallway duty, bus duty, lunch duty, and any other duty over the course of the day, as an opportunity to greet, speak with, and acknowledge students in a non-academic space. There's so much opportunity during these moments. #edchat

The peace of God can bridge the gap and bring healing and restoration. And when it does it will cause people to sit up and take notice.
