@matthewclifford @ArchieHall The challenge is that the better than average odds will attach to the nearside easy quick win ideas that will make money faster for investor. The big transformative ideas that move the dial will always a) take longer to achieve and b) come with a higher risk.

@ArchieHall Yep! On average, it’s terrible. The key question is: can you know in advance whether you have better-than-average odds? I think the answer is yes. As Peter Thiel likes to say, you are not a lottery ticket.

Sort of striking that even the risk-neutral returns to startup founders are worse than just sticking it out in a boring-but-safe high-end job like big tech SWE, consultant, banker, big law associate etc

@KirstieMAllsopp @HMLandRegistry The Land Reg backlogs are mostly for new builds. Lawyers have strict timescales to get registrations lodged after the move date so post-completion delays unlikely to be on their watch.

@moving_charlie Things are changing here… the Land Registry’s LLC1 project is providing much local search data at any stage and at low / no cost, and more data is being added in all the time. The project is not complete yet, but it’s getting there.

@PhilSpencerTV Completely agree. As a conveyancer for many years, I can categorically state that if all the required information is available upfront, it removes a huge bottleneck in the process. It's the reason auction properties can complete in 28 days.

There have been many half-hearted attempts to improve our housing market over the years. While there’s no denying this 'log book' concept would be a massive undertaking to pull together, there would be huge benefits. Speed and transparency being the stand out winners!
