@AuroraBirdialis @smiley_math Oh yeah. Color coding is huge! I always color code with related things. Like when I’m doing work on the board on multi step equations, my “steps” like +4 to both sides are always in a different color

@smiley_math Try using different colors for different part of the equation, and if you suspect he's a more verbal processor, writing out a prose explanation of the math might be really helpful for him. Having a professor who did that when I was in college was a GAME-CHANGER.

@maryepilgrim For example, we’re doing double distribution and factoring in Algebra 1 right now. Using the area/box model is extremely helpful for organization. Another example - in 7th grade using tables and models like double number lines and bar models throughout is very helpful

@maryepilgrim I should create a website with all my ideas haha. Mainly the consistent use of visual models is extremely helpful. Any way visuals can be used, it’s helpful for all but especially helpful for those that struggle

@fawnpnguyen These are wonderful. Very well organized, easy to follow, not overwhelming, and a great mix of questions to get kids thinking in every grade. Thank you for putting this all together :)

Good God, I'm finally done with our Mathematics K-8 Remote Learning Activities. I'd grateful for your help with the answer key (link is on the same page). docs.google.com/document/d/1Pj…

@EverscienceM I really wish I could but I literally just left my teaching job 3 weeks ago and this is my only source of revenue as I am trying to start a business which has just gotten much busier and I may require paid help very soon. The free version is still very powerful and popular!

@MrDeltaMath aren’t you considered offering discounted or free access to the plus version to help teachers during the online teaching journey because the Coronavirus outbreak? Support your peers in this difficult time.

@NYCMayor Please close the schools starting on Monday. As a teacher that is not part of the high risk population I am more than happy to help students that need food or a place to be during the day, but conducting business as usual is a mistake and puts our population at risk

To help halt the community spread of COVID-19, I’ve declared a state of emergency in New York City. There are a lot of rumors at a time like this, so here are the simple facts:

@MrKitMath There are a few CUNYs that offer "advanced certs" which you could take classes at. I took my classes at Lehman in the Bronx... I think Brooklyn College also offers it. Hunter has a full masters program - not sure if they'd let you take individual classes w/o going for a masters

@MrKitMath Aye. Yeah no need for another masters. Go through that self certification check list and see what you need. If you take a few classes from a CUNY school they will probably have a certification specialist in the education dept that can help you review your credits and self cert

@MrKitMath Basically you need either a recommendation by a university (completion of advanced certification or masters) OR you need to take all those courses listed and do a self cert with all your college transcripts and and CLEP tests. I did the latter and finished my masters a year later

@MrKitMath You can either do a certification program through a university or get a whole 2nd masters. Lehman College has both, and so do a few other CUNYs. I actually got my license before I finished my 2nd masters because I did the "additional classroom teaching cert" - e.g. self cert
