One can argue that social distancing alone would have been enough to suppress the spread of COVID-19 in Ireland; but in w/b 20 March, the number of people in ICU was doubling every 3.5 days, and 4214 new cases were detected. It was no time for half measures, or experiments.

This is the one where I'm coming to a different conclusion from @roinnslainte I don't think R0 is under 1 yet. I use 2 different ways of calculating R0, using data from their website, and ignoring the German lab results. Both suggest it's about 1.1 - similar to seasonal flu. /5
