Operation Fianna is the Defence Forces' Joint Task Force supporting Ireland's Presidency of the Council of the European Union — bringing together personnel from the Army, Air Corps, Naval Service and Defence Forces Headquarters to plan, coordinate and deliver military support throughout the Presidency. After months of detailed planning, specialist training and Joint level exercises, Defence Forces personnel are now conducting multi domain operations in support of An Garda Síochána across the land, air, maritime and cyber domains — from maritime security patrols and air surveillance, to counter-drone capability, enhanced force protection and specialist military support. Working in support of An Garda Síochána and alongside other State agencies, Operation Fianna delivers a synchronized and coordinated Joint response to the security needs of the Presidency — demonstrating the Defence Forces' readiness to protect, respond and support the State.
