This is another perfect example of the phenomenon SAAS vendors face. You aren’t just competing against apps in your category. You are competing against the perceived surplus value capture you create/take in comparison to EVERY OTHER SOFTWARE. x.com/taylorholiday/…

@TaylorHoliday $25/Month - Because @judgeme exists and has permanently warped my brain on how much value a Shopify app can provide for $15/month.

@seanfrank One thing I've seen over the last couple years: When brands scale back, cohort health goes way up.

2024 tip of the day, day 8: YOU CAN BE FIRST ORDER PROFITABLE. "but my LTV lets me lose money the first 9 months" Who is funding that loss? No one wants to bag hold your losses. First order profitability is owning your destiny. How to get there: - reduce scale until you are serving the people who actually NEED your product - Improve margins so you can spend more and still be profitable - make your product more desirable, so marketing is more efficient Losing money on a new customer in 2024 is the stupidest thing you can do. revenue is a vanity metric. Like bragging about your email open rate.
Sean Frank@Seanfrank

2024 tip of the day, day 7: Try to learn from other DOERS. Learn from people doing it, right now, at the same time. Find your cohort. DONT listen to people who made it big 10 years ago. Ecom and the internet in general moves SO FAST. If you talk to someone from Casper during their heyday, they would say "community, PR, organic, thats what matters" Naw, not really in 2024. The industry moves in 2 year waves. If you try to copy someone who was on a different, earlier wave, you wont have the same outcome. Dont try to apply old advice to an ever evolving industry. There will be good principles for sure, but I wouldnt look for advice or advisors from anyone who isnt building RIGHT NOW.

Friendship hack: Call your CPG founder friends today and tomorrow to tell them how grateful you are for them 🥳 If they don’t pick up, they’re probably on DND like silly little geese. Keep calling them until they do. They’ll be so touched 🥹 Especially do this on Friday ❤️

Everyone says their city feels different and off after the pandemic and most attribute this to a change of cast characters (lots of people left, new people in), or generational change, but there’s something else going on. NYC LA Paris London, everyone says it.
Reza Chowdhury@RezaC1

Taco Bell, a national chain that prides itself on staying open late, closes before midnight in NYC at its Varick location. I asked the workers, all Bangladeshi in our native tongue, why? They all replied it’s not safe to stay open later and the people are dangerous in a loose translation. NYC used to be a 24 hour city, generating tax revenue all day. Now it’s just no different than a sleepy suburban town.

@joyehoward @futurecommerce Thank you! So for Early Majority, do you see the digital infrastructure being there, in part, to better enable offline interactions between the brand and its members? Would this be similar in nature to how you repositioned Sonos?

@leostrupczewski @futurecommerce Meaning physical retail and experiential. For us, so far: trunk show tours, select wholesale partnerships, and offering our members access to extraordinary experiences, such as Noma Kyoto and You Origin in Carnac this past weekend.

@joyehoward: enjoyed your @futurecommerce convo! Question: you said at the end that the future of commerce is more offline. I’m curious what you mean by that and how you see Early Majority’s web3/heavy online investment fitting/complementing this?

@MiloOutdoorEcom @codyplof One other thought off this: What if you segmented by shade match orders instead of product? If shade match reduces tickets (feel like I've seen @eliweiss say this?) & more customers are using it over time, you may find stronger correlation in segment not using the service.

@codyplof Maybe product mix? I assume you’d be trying to figure out which products produce the most CX tickets, right?

Has anyone found a correlation between number of cx tickets and any other factors? @eliweisss and I have been running some and haven't found anything significant for us; yet. Here's what we've tried:
