Tomorrow Lau v. Nicholas celebrates 50!🎂 I am asking that we all stop and remember that 50 years ago on Jan. 21, 1974, the Supreme Court's decision in Lau v. Nicholas deemed that "[T]here is no equality of treatment merely by providing students with the same facilities, textbooks, teachers, AND curriculum; for students who do not understand English are effectively foreclosed from any meaningful education." ⁣ ⁣ How are we doing? First grade students completed a collaborative portrait of the famous Mexican artist Frida Kahlo to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. The students learned about her life and looked at some of her most well-known paintings, as well as the names of the colors in Spanish. @IamCPS
