Autistic and ADHD math is needing 6 hours to watch a 90-minute movie, because you’ve got to allow for: the extra pausing you must do when you’re losing focus or want to google an actor, the rewinding you must do when you realise you’ve drifted off, and research time afterwards.
Something that frustrated me as an autistic student was working hard all year only to receive a substandard grade that didn’t reflect my abilities, because the exam questions were too vague or poorly worded for me to understand and invigilators weren’t allowed to comment on them.
Many autistic people are so generous; we give so much time, support, detail, love, and more, to others. Many of us are incredibly generous because we: want to be kind; seek to give others what we wish we could receive; hope to please/placate others (often a trauma response); etc.
Do any other autistic people find that burnout hits as soon as you’ve finished a big project? It’s like my body can hold out for as long as I need it to (for which I’m most grateful), but will demand rest at the earliest opportunity.
