Standing in solidarity with the unions and workers in Colombia who are facing violence at the hands of the state during International Workers’ Day protests. Police violence is a transnational problem. #Echobox=1619923087" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">theguardian.com/world/2021/may…

@agronomistag Next, greater/lower root colonization does not always equal greater/lower AMF benefits. Improvement in P uptake via AMF does not always track w/ greater root colonization. Take a look at @Luehea paper: doi.org/10.1046/j.1365… 3/

@agronomistag Our study also did not test for AMF diversity or root colonization “benefits” to the plant host in the agronomic sense (e.g. fruit production, P uptake, etc.). So stating that there are no benefits from increased diversity in our study is incorrect and misleading. 2/

@agronomistag First, our models did not test the response of root colonization to AMF diversity so not sure where you are drawing that conclusion. 1/

It is NOT offensive to ask about compensation. It IS offensive to expect people to work for free.

“It’s sort of like if you’re drowning, and the university tells you, ‘Don’t worry if it takes you an extra year to get back to shore,’” Dr. Witten said. “It’s like, ‘Hey, that’s not helpful. I need a flotation device.’” nytimes.com/2021/04/13/hea…

Thank you! I would be nowhere without the women whose footsteps I dance in. While reciting my poem, I wore a ring with a caged bird—a gift from @Oprah for the occasion , to symbolize Maya Angelou, a previous inaugural poet. Here’s to the women who have climbed my hills before.

I have never been prouder to see another young woman rise! Brava Brava, @TheAmandaGorman! Maya Angelou is cheering—and so am I.

Many of them rode the wave of this violent rhetoric, or at the very least sat idly by it. Now is our chance to stop it. This is what we are sent to Congress to do - the tough stuff. All the easy choices are taken. If any GOP need advice on how to deal with it, they can call me.

I get it, but some of us just spent the last 2 years taking stances that have led to repeated attempts on our lives - for demanding guaranteed healthcare, immigrant justice, etc. Sorry if this lacks empathy, but it’s a privilege if this is their first time. They can do one vote.

Crow is right. Numerous House Rs have received death threats in the past week, and I know for a fact several members *want* to impeach but fear casting that vote could get them or their families murdered. Not spinning or covering for anyone. Just stating the chilling reality.

We wanted to start the #RootstoSTEMPodcast to showcase the diversity of paths people take to become scientists, and I think Maggie sums it up really nicely in this clip. Check out the full episode on Spotify and Apple Podcasts to hear her story. #phdlife #AcademicTwitter

On this day in 1865, the US adopted the 13th amendment and abolished slavery and indentured servitude — except as punishment for a crime. It's time to finish what we started and abolish unpaid prison labor.

Today I got our UPLC to run samples successfully for the first time since the pandemic hit. Things aren't fine or "normal", but I will celebrate this little win #honestsciencetwitter

If you love insect-microbe symbioses, you may be familiar with great work by @toby_hammer and others that demonstrates the lack of a stable microbiome in butterflies. Does this mean microbiota could actually be costly to butterflies? To find out, check out my talk at #EntSoc20!
