SAPS UPDATE ON NATIONWIDE OPERATIONS @SAPoliceService statement: The South African Police Service(SAPS) wishes to update the nation on the current security situation following the court procedures involving EFF leader, Mr Julius Malema. From the morning, the SAPS has been monitoring developments outside various courts across the country where thousands of EFF members have gathered in support of their leader. Up until this hour, the SAPS has observed that, despite heightened emotions around recent developments, the marches have taken place without incidents. This responsible conduct by EFF members and supporters of Mr Malema reflects a shared commitment to upholding the rule of law and respecting the rights of others. Public Order Policing units remain deployed across various provinces to monitor the situation and to ensure that all gatherings continue to be peaceful. These deployments are part of our standard operational approach to maintain safety and stability in the country. At present, the SAPS can cofirm that the situation remains calm and those that have gathered have done so in an orderly and peaceful manner.
