@Shotaro1539692 You’re right and that is wrong. I’ll be completely honest I had this internalized colorism growing up in an asian household. It’s definitely a deeper rooted issue and we should speak out. I hope he’s educating himself on this and that’s where the nuance comes in.

@letschikkit So for example if I go out into the sun and say “ew I’m getting too black I need to go back inside” that’s internalized colorism. Wouldn’t that be disrespectful towards darkskin? This should be pointed out and spoken against we are defending ourselves.

@Shotaro1539692 No, this is why I suggested using critical thinking as a non korean or non asian bc colorism is often internalized rather than projected on to others. I can’t speak for him but he has shown respect for their choreographers in content. i am poc and I met him irl and he was kind 🤷🏽♀️

@dovebats there is no word for tan, ppl use the word for black, which many clarified. He used the word in reference to himself and yes as a global group member he should be aware of all contexts and he apologized. up to you to accept or not but projecting other evil intentions doesn’t sit

@letschikkit A lot of the response reads as he apologized now get over it and shut up. Now I’m not saying i see him as irredeemable or that he had racist intentions.
It’s just those things mentioned along with a continued dismissal and a push to “give grace” does not do anything to help.

@jiaermusic I get that as a global idol he should educate himself but that’s what he’s doing now and I think that’s where giving grace comes in. ppl like blackpink on camera said the n word are still successful, attending the met gala with no apology. In that case that is blatant disrespect.

a little note, in my native language there is also no word for tan so when we describe getting tanner we use the word for black but there’s context for it. That may be cancelable but if you want to cancel a billion people and a language that is 900 years old take time to reflect
