@Doug_Analytics This is the kind of move smart FOs make. Opportunity cost is close to 0. Upside is non-zero. Downside is 0. New situation and coaching staff, I think it’s a savvy decision
English

@ShaxNBA They either need Italy to win or Mexico wins and scores more than 5 runs, iirc
English

@YankeeWRLD Who needs to win for the USA to get in? Does it matter if that team loses? If not I can actually see that
English

They’re conspiring to get USA knocked out it’s so fucking over

Randy Arozarena going around shaking hands with Italy and reporters
English

@JCMacriNBA Cannot wait till they blow them the fuck up though!
English

@DJAceNBA Wait I actually am shocked by this....@shwinnypooh ?
English

@katiewav This is awesome. I’ve been waiting for Letterboxd to drop a similarity score metric to other users. This works too!
English

snow day claude code project :)
lettermatchd - find letterboxd users with the same top 4 favorite films as you (or any other user)
the probability of someone with the EXACT same top 4 as you is nearly 0, so you can also check for 2/3 films overlap––litmus test for film taste obscurity lol
try it here: lettermatchd-web.vercel.app

@shwinnypooh One of the most unlikable good teams in the history of the NBA, though!
English

@TheCohencidence My girlfriend who I don’t have is a worse gaslighter than Giannis. The dude is insufferable. Ever since the “failure” speech after losing to the heat, I cannot stand him (would root for him if he’s a Knicks though)
English

@xavierjdesigns @HotHandTheory I guess our disagreement is in the validity of the voting system. Yes, the nba could vote on the best system, but I personally find that to be a very slippery slope! All valid point though
English

@xavierjdesigns @HotHandTheory Got it, I hear you. Last thing I would say is that models aren’t objective until they are finalized. If tomorrow @kmedved decided (and plz correct me if I’m wrong) to change the weights of DARKO, it would still be DARKO. It can be manipulated. I think this is mainly semantics
English

Don't use records to determine draft (or lotto) order. Use an objective metric that assesses expected wins based on team talent.
The metric doesn't have to be perfect to do a pretty good job of identitying the "worst" teams.
Completely eliminates incentives to lose.

What are the craziest anti-tanking ideas you’ve seen this week? Pay no mind to realism. Just looking for weird and interesting. And if you remember where you saw them, lemme know. I’m thinking about writing about them and want to be able to properly credit people.
English

@xavierjdesigns @HotHandTheory Right but in the way that LeBron is different from epm is differerent from rapm? Yes, once the parameters and inputs are set, it’s objective, but the NBA can’t put out one of these models and say, hey, this is objective measurement of team talent
English

@levy_cameron @HotHandTheory Subjective means two people can look at the same thing and disagree vs objective means two people using the same method will get the same answer
English

@xavierjdesigns @HotHandTheory I was actually gonna say net rating is an objective measurement, but (I could be mistaken) the preseason dunks and threes thing is a model of some type? Because it’s measuring impact beyond just net rating. Any kind of model will be subjective.
English

@levy_cameron @HotHandTheory I think I hear you. But disagree. By "objective" I mean follow an algorithmic structure consistently applied to all teams. If I said "goodness = NRTG (aka ORTG - DRTG)" this would still be an objective measure. We can say we don't agree w it but it's still objective
English

@shwinnypooh i think just grab someone from the buyout market for this. highsmith?
English

@xavierjdesigns I’m kinda curious what exactly happened with him. I don’t remember the drop off. Feels like out of nowhere he was cast away
English

@levy_cameron Low risk, potentially high reward pick up. Of course if they have something better they should do it. But this would be better than nothing imo
English

@ShaxNBA @levy_cameron If the Knicks get Giannis this season, they can go over the second apron next year and keep Mitch. All of that other dialogue becomes moot. The assumption when I tweeted was Giannis simply wouldn’t be available this season. Having both is by far my preferred scenario
English

@_prezidente Not sure how I feel about comparing his current season to all big man seasons since 2020, that may lead to a selection bias issue
English

1. agree KAT's offense has been a bigger issue than his defense, which has improved this season a bit, but he's not been especially good at rim protection
2. friendly reminder to filter when you use BBI or else you risk misuing data by accident (which i've done!)

XJ@xavierjdesigns
Towns is having his best rim protection season in years. His offense has been the issue.
English

@_zachblatter I don't even think it's that sneaky anymore. reminds me of a guy we're playing against right now
English

@ShaxNBA haha no i know, I love jeremy's takes.
you think we're likely to move him?
English

@levy_cameron No shade at all towards him, he was just giving a perspective that makes sense and something the Knicks are likely to do. I just oppose it fully
English
