“I do some of my best work at 3am and have been known to write an entire chapter for my PhD in a day. We should allow individuals to be extraordinary without expecting them to sit at a desk from nine to five,“ writes @Vikky_Leaney bit.ly/3Yc59bj

If the first thing you say about trans people is about bathrooms or sports & not about how to make the world safer for these beautiful children of God, you need real help.

On the train home from a brilliant Assessment in HE conference - fab keynotes discussing the threat of neurotechnologies and the paradox of inclusive assessment, plus talks on student consumerism and assessment accommodations to name a few #aheconf2024

Here are 8 remarkable 'out' trans people, all of whom are amazing scientists & role models. I'd love to talk about each in turn, but in the current world of X, this would put them at risk. In recent days, the trend has been to vilify trans people and deny their identities.

@liambrady_ So sorry for your loss, Liam x big hugs. it's so true re nothing prepares you until it actually happens. My dad's health was bad for 10 years and even when he finally passed, the finality of it (and still shock) hit me like a truck. Grief is so big because the love was so great❤️

Not quite the same situation as Adrian, but my wee Nanna died last month after a tough battle with cancer. She’s not the first grandparent I’ve lost, and we knew it was coming, but as the column says the pre-feeling of grief is no preparation for the real thing.

@Chelse_Young i find using dictate in word to be really helpful for this! i speak pretty informally about what i want to say just to get everything out of my head and into a document, then it’s much easier to go through and edit to make it more academic

Hours and days and weeks worth of reading and I can’t string at sentence together at the minute. Any tips for writing a #PhD when you feel like your brain has gone to mush and you can’t make the work make sense despite knowing that you know the stuff?! #PhDChat #phdlife

@liambrady_ Yep - it is usual but it has happened before (e.g. Brown made Peter Mandelson a Lord to be a cabinet minister). Prime Minister could theoretically happen in the same way - technically people have been PM while not being a MP or Lord - but seems a lot less likely in practice

@JamesWHarrison Seems like the last instance is Robert Gascoyne-Cecil in 1895-1902 although he had been an MP before

@liambrady_ It's always been that way! Just more recently convention has been for an MP to have these roles, but we have had PMs from the Lords in the past
