Something a bit different yesterday. I went along to @gonortheast’s launch event for their new batch of fully electric buses. These 29 brand-new EVs will allow another 3 of their routes to transition to smoother, quieter, and greener electric operation. 🚍 ⚡️🌳

🎅 Santa Bus 2025 – what a year! 🎄 The #GNESantaBus returned for its 6th year, travelling over 550 miles and once again spreading festive cheer to thousands of people across the #NorthEast. Proud of everyone involved who helped make it so special! 🚌💚

Some of our drivers volunteer at Sunderland Soup Kitchen throughout the year, driving the mobile homeless support horse box through Sunderland, ensuring that support is provided to those who need it ❤️ Santa's team of elves also got involved last night, swapping wrapping presents for serving meals in the Soup Kitchen! 🍲 It was great to get involved with the incredible work that Sunderland Community Soup Kitchen do and lovely to bring joy to the local community with the Santa Bus 👏

🏥 Our Santa Bus and team visited Sunderland Royal Hospital with Louies Trust last night to deliver presents to children who are in hospital over the Christmas period.⁠ ⁠ 🪀 Our colleagues have donated gifts to Louies Trust and helped to wrap the presents ready for them to be gifted.⁠ ⁠ 🎁 All children received a present from Louies Trust and some children got onboard the Santa Bus to dance and sing to the music. ⁠ 💫 We love being part of such an amazing cause, bringing joy to the children's faces and making Christmas at hospital that bit more magical.

Update! Thank you SO much to @gonortheast for giving the best start to Molly’s birthday and Christmas week. She even got to go through the bus wash AND a set of stop bells! An absolute massive thank you to Laura & Liam for organising this ☺️

Anyone else getting excited about our Twilight Buses event tomorrow? Some final preparations in hand this evening at Bridgeton Bus Garage. Also some of the *planned* vehicle allocations!

@lf_p @gonortheast Ah, I forgot about those! Shows how much times have changed, it’s hard enough getting around that route with a decker now, never mind the bendys!😬 That was an interesting trial, but yeah if I remember correctly there were staff on stands selling tickets using a handheld devices

@liamhall24 @gonortheast I liked the ones on the 58 even more which had their THIRD set of doors retained! I’m wondering when Streetcars were trialled, was that a full BRT trial with passengers buying tickets before boarding? Presumably so due to the completely closed off cab. 📸 flic.kr/p/CG87dC

Well it’s going to be fun trying to get off this. Single-doored buses are awful on busy routes.

Really hope @GoNorthEast have spec’d dual doors for the new buses due imminently on the X66. The disembarking & boarding at Gateshead Interchange & Metrocentre Interchange is PAINFUL! And hopefully @NorthEast_CA bus franchising will bring flat fares to reduce stop dwell times!
