Following yesterday’s announcement of £24 million in funding to progress plans for a new arena at Gateshead Quays, Stephen Patterson, Chief Executive at Newcastle NE1, has offered the following comment.


The 2 apartment blocks by Olympian Homes, south of Pottery Lane, are really coming along now. After decades of standing dormant, it’s great to see development, (and plans for further), on these vast swathes of brownfield wasteland as you enter Newcastle from the south. 🏗️

















I hope the new bus stops in County Durham & Northumberland receive Calvert B for Buses branding, so they look integrated with the rest of the region’s transport. Our unique visual identifiers, designed by legendary M.Calvert, are instantly recognisable & give a cohesive look.



Let’s see how our (UNOFFICIAL) combined Metro & Rail map would look with some possible* future extensions. We’ve added: - Metro Washington Loop - Leamside Line - Northumberland Line extension - Bensham Curve - Infill stations at Gateshead Quays, Murton, Belford & Killingworth.
