Okay 1 final thought (haha). I think many underestimate the power of adrenaline. Being woken from a dead sleep to lap a pt w/ perforated bowel is not the same as doing IQ testing after 12 hrs being awake. 1 is more stimulating than the other. Also requires little decision making.

Very strongly disagree. But I can only speak from surgical perspective. Surgeons need to learn to both think & operate while tired. Surgeons are not interchangeable—you can’t always get tagged out of a long case. It’s critical to learn our limitations during training.
